Mars square Neptune

Ok, let’s get some things straight with this. Firstly, your energy levels could be lower than usual this morning. Don’t fight that, but instead work with it. Secondly, you’ll probably feel more doubt and inadequacy that you usually do. It’s your call whether you listen to that and the nay-sayers around you or whether you decide that you’ll feel differently tomorrow. Thirdly, accept the consequences of your actions and avoid the temptation to blame others for the decisions that led to those actions. Fourthly, the influence doesn’t last that long, leaving you to get on with the business of the day. Next?

Sun conjunct Mercury

What else? The Sun and Mercury meet up today in a conjunction that is more than your average planetary joining together. Those of you who have been reading along for a while will know that this is known as cazimi.

But for everyone else, what does it mean? What is cazimi? While it sounds as though it’s something that Harry Potter would say as he waved his wand about a bit, it’s that point when the Sun and Mercury are as close together as they can be.

When Mercury is within, say, 8° of the Sun, it’s said to be combust – and combust is not a great place to be. It’s about being so blinded by the light that you can’t see straight or think straight. If you have Mercury within 8° of the Sun natally, you might be the one who says you’re often overlooked – or not listened to – as though your opinions can’t be seen beyond the light of the Sun. Right?

Up to 17° is referred to as being under the sunbeams – but I digress.

The thing is, there’s no need to feel alone in this – given that Mercury is never more than around 28° from the Sun, the chances are relatively high that your Mercury could be less than 8° from your sun.

Cazimi, on the other hand – that point where Mercury and the Sun join in a golden glow of uber understanding and concentration – is a very, very good place for Mercury to be…however briefly. It can bring with it a blinding flash of seriously, just how smart am I?

The aspect is exact at 11.45pm or thereabouts (Sydney time), and about 12:45 pm GMT, but Mercury is said to be cazimi within around 17’ of arc. No, I’m not going to do the calculation for that, and I can see your eyes beginning to glaze over. The one thing I want you to take away from this is that in that golden period, Mercury is elevated to the pure Mercury-ness of it – yep, even when Mercury is retrograde.

Something about cazimi…

Sun conjunct Mercury

Moon in Libra

The Sun and Mercury meet up today in a conjunction that is more than your average planetary joining together. Those of you who have been reading along for a while will know that this is known as cazimi.

But for everyone else, what does it mean? What is cazimi? While it sounds as though it’s something that Harry Potter would say as he waved his wand about a bit, it’s actually that point when the Sun and Mercury are as close together as they can be.

When Mercury is within, say, 8° of the Sun, it’s said to be combust – and combust is not a good place to be. It’s about being so blinded by the light that you can’t see straight…or think straight. If you have Mercury within 8° of the Sun natally, you might be the one who says you’re often overlooked – or not listened to – as though your opinions can’t be seen beyond the light of the Sun. Right?

Up to 17° is referred to as being under the sunbeams – but I digress.

The thing is, there’s no need to feel alone in this – given that Mercury is never more than around 28° from the Sun, the chances are fairly high that your Mercury could be less than 8° from your sun.

Cazimi, on the other hand – that point where Mercury and the Sun join in a golden glow of uber understanding and concentration – is a very, very good place for Mercury to be…however briefly. It can bring with it a blinding flash of seriously, just how clever am I?

The aspect is exact at 11.48am or thereabouts (Sydney time), but Mercury is said to be cazimi within around 17’ of arc. No, I’m not going to do the calculation for that and I can see your eyes beginning to glaze over. The one thing I want you to take away from this is that in that golden period of time, Mercury is elevated to the pure Mercury-ness of it – yep, even when Mercury is retrograde.

Speaking of which, Mercury is retrograde, so not thinking straight already. This cazimi might, therefore, not be as cazimi-ish (yes, I made that word up) as a cazimi normally is…but it’s still a cazimi.

Something about cazimi, combustion, sunbeams – and a lot of perceptions…

Sun conjunct Mercury

Moon in Cancer

Perception is one of those things that falls within the realm somewhere beyond boundaries. It’s a personal thing. And today, with the Sun and Mercury hooking up in Pisces, it can be a very personal thing indeed.

The thing is, when Mercury is within, say, 8° of the Sun, it is said to be combust – and combust is not a good place to be. It’s about being so blinded by the light that you can’t see straight…or think straight. Up to 17° is referred to as being under the sunbeams – a lesser version of this. If you have Mercury within 8° of the Sun, you could be the one who says you’re often overlooked – or not listened to – as though your opinions can’t be seen beyond the light of the Sun. Right?

There’s no need to feel alone in this, though – given that Mercury is never more than around 28° from the Sun, the chances are fairly high that your Mercury could be less than 8° from your sun. But I digress.

Cazimi, on the other hand – that point where Mercury and the Sun join in a golden glow of uber understanding and concentration – is a very, very good place for Mercury to be…however briefly.

The aspect is exact at 11.28am or therabouts (Sydney time), but Mercury is said to be cazimi within around 17’ of arc. Yep, ok, I can see your eyes beginning to glaze over. The one thing I want you to take away from this is that in that golden period of time, Mercury is elevated to the pure Mercury-ness of it – yep, even when Mercury is in Pisces.

The Moon is in Cancer, so you could find your gut instincts working over time today. Listen to it, but then also ask yourself whether what you’re perceiving is what you’re actually feeling, or if, instead, those perceptions are coming from a point of what you think you should be perceiving.

That’s an awful lot of perception to leave you with.

Moon in Leo

Sun conjunct Mercury

Mercury opposite Pluto

Venus square Uranus

Sun opposition Pluto

It’s my last day in the partition job today- and I have mixed feelings. Although there are absolutely no regrets for the decision that I’ve made- even though this is the first time in my life that I’ve resigned from a job- I’m sure there’ll be tears shed when I say goodbye to my colleagues. Coupled with that, there’s an element of genuine fear over what comes next. For now, though, it’s goodbye.

Before the pass gets handed back and my belongings are packed into a box, there’s a busy day ahead. Speaking of which, I’ll share with you the personal contents of my partition space:

  • 1 x magic 8 ball which, to be honest, isn’t yet well trained
  • 1 x very ugly feng shui frog that’s apparently for money luck. My BMF and ex-boss insisted we place our joint lotto ticket under it- so far it hasn’t worked, but we remain optimistic.
  • 1 x snow globe featuring the Loch Ness monster. The idea was that I’d shake it each time I needed to see blue sparkles. It’s been shaken so much that Nessie has now fallen off her plinth and into the loch.
  • 1 x cartoon figure of Robin. My ex-boss has the Batman figure.
  • 1 x shattered serenity bubble

It’s perhaps fitting that what’s happening in the sky is what’s happening here on the ground as I say goodbye and over the next 24 hours or so.

Sun conjunct Mercury: It’s all about me- isn’t it? Enough about me…let’s talk about me a little more. In fact, let’s talk about what I have planned a little more? You want to know what I think? Let me tell you- I’m glad you asked.

Given that this is happening in Cancer, you’ll be able to feel your needs and express them from the heart. I’ll be trying really hard not to cry.

Mercury opposite Pluto, Sun opposition Pluto: Oppositions are often about a breaking apart, but an opposition between Mercury in Pluto is often about a battle of wills, or a power struggle, or someone trying to persuade you to change your mind, or someone trying to convince you into another way of thinking. Given that Mercury is in Cancer, don’t just look for overt examples of this- consider also passive aggressive communication and judicious use of guilt as a method of mass persuasion. I’m saying nothing more on this one.

Venus square Uranus: I often think of the Pink song “leave me alone- I’m lonely” when I see this transit. Essentially it’s about a need for stimulation, something different, a change of pace, perhaps a contact with someone new, a flirtation that you know will go nowhere, experimentation with something a tad unusual. You don’t need to change your life in order to make things more interesting. Play safely and nicely.

Until next time…

Moon in Gemini

Venus sextile Neptune

Sun conjunct Mercury

I have this theory that daydreaming was invented to give us a break from reality- and sometimes a break is all we need to recharge our emotional batteries and inspire creative thought.

And that’s what Venus sextile Neptune is- an opportunity to do just that. If you do nothing more with this transit than smell a flower, appreciate the beauty of nature, or really listen to a beautiful piece of music- even a lyric or two will do the trick- your imagination could be stimulated.

The danger is twofold:

  • Over-thinking it- something very possible when the Moon is in Gemini, or
  • Confusing a transitory moment or daydream with real-life- something less likely when the Sun and Mercury are both in Taurus.

Speaking of the Sun and Mercury- while today is a great day for making plans and reviewing old ones, because Mercury is still retrograde, it’s not so great for actually putting anything new and scary into practice. Refine your ideas some more.

The week ahead…

shutterstock_220402180

So anyways, it’s back to work for me tomorrow…the holiday has been great, but also a little surreal, a little unreal- as all great holidays should be. Now it’s back to work to save up for the next one!

I’ve posted heaps on picks on instagram and heaps of posts on and anyways– there are still more posts to come- so duck over and have a look if you’re interested.

What else? While I was away my novel was published. Yes, I was excited- still am. It’s been a leap of faith- and courage… It’s also a tick off my bucket list- apt given that bucket lists are a theme in the novel.

Hubby and I had a little launch party at Casa Luna in Ubud- fitting given that the team behind Casa Luna are also the team behind the Ubud Writers Festival…which is also on my bucket list.

It was just he and I and a few martinis. Tequila might have also featured. The publisher (yes, I’m self-published) also splashed out on some canapés.

IMG_0867

I might have even got a little drunk and talked to the fireflies in the rice paddies on the way back to our room. Anyways, if you’re into chick lit, the pic on the website will take you through to Amazon.

Right, to the skies.

I don’t talk a lot about things like Chiron and the North node- not because I don’t find them interesting or helpful, but mostly because there’s already enough to talk about.

This week, though, the North Node is sitting up and waving about at me with trines from Mars (today) and the Sun (next Saturday) to it. Just a couple of days later, Mercury does the same.

Let’s break these down a little:

  • Mars is about energy and the desire to act
  • The Sun is our ego, our pride and our motivation
  • The North Node is the path forward- unfamiliar, a little scary, possibly painful, but karmically rewarding in the long run,
  • Trines are things happening easily.

In short, this week could be one where you’re inspired into acting on an opportunity. If you choose not to proceed, ask yourself whether the excuses you’ve come up with are legitimate…or whether you’re using them out of fear. It’s ok if you’re scared- it’s not ok if you don’t acknowledge that. This is happening at 8 degrees Gemini and Libra.

What else?

Venus squares off to Uranus on Tuesday. Being in Cancer, she’s a tad on the passive aggressive side, but really is FINE…ok???? Although short-lived, Venus – Uranus squares can be uncomfortable, but they can also be interesting.

It can stimulate you creatively, in the workplace it may bring new ways of dealing with old solutions, in relationships it could be the impetus to break free, or just the spark that you need to reinvigorate something that’s been feeling lonely and old.

If you’re holding on too tightly to something tried and true, if your relationship is feeling a little too structured or held back, this transit will be difficult. If your relationship is one where each of you has sufficient space to move, and new experiences to try, this transit could be very exciting indeed.

Over the next couple of days you’ll be seeking something new, something a little unusual, something a little off-centre- especially if you’re feeling constrained.

You might find yourself flirting with something or someone that makes you feel young and interesting and alive again.

You might find yourself starting arguments just to get a rise out of someone, just for something to do, to prompt a reaction to have something, anything, happen.

Having said that, getting things out in the open can be a good thing- as long as you actually do something with it. And, let’s face it, sometimes, in order to move forward, we have to change the rules a bit.

Have a little flirt, provoke a little argument, but take care not to take too much to heart. Oh, it’s also not such a good day for impulse buying…

Mars is also doing the square thing, but against Neptune. Another short-lived transit, but potentially more difficult than Venus – Uranus. Why? Because this one has the capability to dissolve your energy, your inner strength, your courage and your desire. Things might all seem way too hard- and why bother when you’re no good anyway?

The message? Get over yourself, face up to what you’re pretending you can’t see, deal with what you’re pretending hasn’t happened, swallow hard and, as a good friend would say, take a decent glass of cement and harden up…or something like that. Anyways, it’s only a day, so if you want to mooch around instead that’s obviously your prerogative too.

Speaking of actions, Mercury joins Mars on Wednesday. There’s power in your mind and in your words. Try not to abuse it, but rather use it. As my mother says- if you can’t say anything nice, talk about the weather.

Venus trines Chiron on Thursday. The Venus – Chiron connections always make me think of the power of love to hurt…and to heal. With Mercury also active, you’ll instinctively know which words to use to do either…

It’s Mercury’s turn to square up to Neptune on Friday. This one is about the difference between fact and fiction. Given that Mercury is retrograde, we’ve already been through this, now you’re going back. There’s another yet to come. Think before you speak; if it seems to good to be true, it probably is; don’t go chasing pies in the sky…and other clichés like that. Then again, it’s a great transit to create a little fantasy, a fairy-tale or two, catch a star or two and create some magic under.

Have a great week…

The Week Ahead- Looking Forward….

shutterstock_104878289

So anyways, my copy edit came back from the editor last Friday. This meant that the hours that I didn’t spend commuting or at the partition job, I spent editing. 98,000 words…that’s a lot of editing to do in a week.

It’s done now- which means I move onto proof reading. It’s times like these that I wish I were a little more in touch with my Virgo opposite!

It’s all going well though, and my editor was happy with the changes I’d made, and the way the book is shaping up.

I’m getting closer to publication date, so from here it’s lots of little bits and pieces. If you want to keep up with it all, I’m blogging it over at Tracey Hamill. I’ll be starting to introduce the characters over the next couple of weeks.

In case you missed it, my cover is below.

Joanne Tracey_Baby Its You- comp

Even though this is pure escapist fiction- and absolutely nothing to do with astrology- I’ve been asked a lot lately whether my characters have charts. They do…it’s one of the first things I do when I start a new draft. It’s also the only piece of planning I do in the process. I’ll share those charts here over the next few weeks too.

To the skies.

We have a bit of a Mercurial week coming up. Mercury is in Aries, so wants his opinion to be heard. Mercury in Aries can also be a little….challenged….shall we say, when it comes to perspective. As a result, Tuesdays square-off with Pluto could be a tad challenging.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself…

Later today Mercury trines Jupiter and the Sun joins forces with Uranus.

I’m supposed to be proofreading, but I’m using that Mercury and Jupiter trine to plan some creative meals for lime week, and preschedule some posts. Yes, I am taking the easy way out- proof reading is not something I’ve been looking forward to- but that’s sort of part of this transit anyway.

It’s a great aspect for future planning, big picture thinking- which is perfect for the Sun- Uranus conjunction later tonight.

shutterstock_167299274

Sun is ego, and Uranus is surprising, rebellious, unexpected, impulsive, rash, future thinking…you get the idea.

The message for most of us is one of not being surprised by surprises…or don’t be surprised if you’re seeking release from something- or someone. It could be something as simple as a habit, or as complex as a job or a relationship. It could be something you’re actively going after, or something that subconsciously you’re being prompted to do.

If you have personal planets or chart points within a couple of degrees of 16 Aries, Cancer, Capricorn or Libra, this could trigger something a little more lively. Uranus transits should come with heavy machinery warnings, so if this is you, and you’re feeling particularly anxious or jittery, avoid anything that could result in a mishap…at least for the day.

My bestie has this one in his solar return…I’m predicting an interesting year!

On Tuesday, Mercury squares off against Pluto and joins forces with Uranus to do so. I don’t know about you, but that one has mischief written all over it.

Let’s break it down.

Mercury is communication, messages, the way we think, and the things we think about. Pluto is intense, compulsive, sometimes obsessive, and deep. Both Aries and Capricorn are ambitious and competitive signs- in their own ways. Put this all together and you could get power plays. You could also get compulsive thinking, and someone trying to force their opinion onto you…or vice versa.

As with all squares, there is huge potential to do good rather than harm. It does require discipline, honesty, and a preparedness to look within.

Enter Uranus.

While Capricorn can tend to dwell on the way things have always been done- the tried and true methods of success, Uranus wants to change the world…or at least, in this case, the way you think.

You don’t need to completely give in, but looking forward rather than back can open your eyes to new possibilities. You’ll need to be quick though, as the thoughts and concepts could be flying around faster than you can catch them.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Jupiter stations direct. For anyone with their Sun, Moon, Ascendant in Pisces or Sagittarius, this will be a breath of fresh air. Bring out the dancing girls. Here’s a link to a little something that I wrote a couple of years ago about Jupiter direct.

We finish the working week with the Sun and Mercury conjunct. Somehow it seems appropriate after their being involved in pretty well everything all week.

At it’s simplest level, this is one of those aspects where the words somehow seem to flow. It’s happening in Aries, so there could be some competition to be heard, or some impulse to be first…but on the whole, it’s a good day for getting your message across, starting a new project, or taking in new ideas and experiences.

The only warning? Don’t get too self involved and maintain your sense of humour. You really don’t want to miss out on what others have to say- especially since you don’t know how what they have to say could potentially help you…

Have a great week!

Moon in Cancer

Moon into Leo

One of my oldest and dearest friends is a Gemini Sun. So what, I hear you ask. More importantly she is Moon conjunct Mercury in Cancer…in the 3rd house.

I love receiving cards from her…why? They are full of what she wants to say. She remembers my doubts and fears- not just the few that I tell her about, but the multitudes I don’t tell her about- and she attempts in words to send them on their way.

She treasures the history of our friendship. I do too, but she tells me.

Today Mercury and the Sun will meet up. So if you need to say what you feel, or write what you feel, or tell it in a song or a poem or a special cooked meal, today is the day to do it.

Memories from the past will resurface, some of these you’ll treasure, others you’ll look through the album in your mind and then close it off for another day. That’s the best thing about memories.

Perhaps you’ve already been doing this.

The Moon has made her way past the Sun and Mercury while those of us in the Southern hemisphere were sleeping.

She’s stirred the memory pot and the strands of feeling are there to be drawn upon.

I wrote a little about this a while ago over on and anyways. The key to unlock my memory is always music. Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight reminds me of unpacking in the house we moved to in Springwood, the year I was 15. Augie March’s One Crowded Hour has me in a casino bar at 4am, and One Direction’s One Way or Another will always remind me of this years trip to Phuket. Sad but true.

I use music to inspire feeling in my writing- especially my fiction. I find a song that feels like what I want to say and the words flow.  It helps me say what needs to be said.

The influence will be with us all day, but by the time the conjunction between the Sun and Mercury is exact, the Moon will be in Leo. This will help with the expression of any emotion…but could also replace or amplify the sensitivity of the moment with a little drama!
