Sagittarius New Moon

The New Moon in Sagittarius is about hope, spontaneity, optimism, faith and adventure. Wherever it falls in your chart is where you need an injection of these things. For that reason, this is one of my favourite New Moons of the year. It’s the opportunists New Moon. It’s not so much glass half full or half empty, it’s, ‘wow that half was great and now there’s room for more, so fill me up!’

Sagittarius is the Seeker, the Optimist, the Gypsy, the Student of Life and the Preacher of Faith. It follows that wherever Sagittarius falls in your chart is where you are being asked to actively seek out people and experiences to help you expand beyond your comfort zone on this great adventure we call Life. It’s where you aim for the horizon, focus on the future and the possibility of possibility, and ask the bigger questions.

Every so often we need to re-discover this part of ourselves – the part that will take a little (measured) risk, the part that wants to be excited by what’s next, the part that wants your heart to race (even just a little) at what you have just (or soon will) experienced.

The New Moon is your reminder to do just that. It can be like a recharge on your faith and excitement switch so if life is feeling a tad so-so, you have the opportunity to do something about it. Notice I said you have the opportunity to do something about it? Yep, as with all new starts, passivity simply won’t cut it.

It doesn’t need to be difficult – it could be as simple as trying a new cuisine next time you eat out or picking up a book on something you’ve always wanted to learn about.

The other thing with the New Moon in Sagittarius is that you might be less afraid to look up and out, to take that leap of faith. Maybe you feel you have outgrown your present situation? Maybe it’s time to take the reins into your hands and gallop off into the sunset? Maybe it’s time to be honest with yourself and those around you? Maybe it’s time to reach for the Moon? Take a magic carpet ride? Dream big? There is no limit to the possibilities.

Doing it for yourself…

As you probably know by now, this site isn’t about telling you what will happen, but rather giving you the tools to attempt to identify the themes for yourself. That’s the DIY part of the tagline. If you’ve been reading along, you should know how to find where the New Moon is happening in your chart. If you’re new to this site (welcome), duck across and check out this post before you go any further.

The position you’re looking for is 15 Sagittarius 07’, or thereabouts. This is the area of life that you’re being asked to expand, learn and grow through experience. It’s where you have the opportunity to push some personal boundaries.

This is the 10th house for me and by 10thhouse I mean it is exactly conjunct my Midheaven. To the degree. Therefore it’s also square my Ascendant. I’ve been spending a lot of time lately thinking about “self-care” and what I want to do – professionally – the things that will make my heart sing. I’ve been enrolling in some on-line courses to learn about book marketing and the business of self-publishing. It’s those things I’ll be setting intentions around this month. I’ll be writing them down with the Sagittarian spark of freedom and soaring dreams in mind. The sky is not the limit and boundaries are there to be leapt over.

The Moon is natally in my 1st house and rules my 5th, so as always my New Moon story will have an outcome in the 5th In order to be true to my Moon, the goals I’ll set for my career will have 5th house creativity in mind.

As for you? Find where 15 Sagittarius is in your chart.

  • How do the concerns of this house make you feel?
  • How would you like to feel about them?
  • What positive steps can you take over the next four weeks to minimise the gap between how you feel about this are and how you’d like to feel?

Now, let’s set our intentions. Think about the area of life you’re focusing on and set small achievable targets. Make sure that you do at least one thing towards this goal this month. If you’re unsure where to start, check out this post. Because we’re talking about Sagittarius, think about the big picture and pretend there are no fences in the way. You can plan the steps out next month when Capricorn hosts the New Moon.

*****Write it down!!!!!!!!!!******

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide:

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, this New Moon will be in your 1st house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, this New Moon will be in your 12th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius, this New Moon will be in your 11th house.

Where in the chart?

Before you can even begin to answer these questions, you need a chart.

If you don’t know how to do this, I’ve pinned this post to the front page of the website.

Now, find the sign that we’re talking about.

This month the New Moon is in Sagittarius- the symbol for that is below- it looks like an arrow shooting straight for the stars.

19314188_s

Now look for the degree. This month we’re after 0 degrees. In my case, it falls in the 9th house.

This will tell you what part of life is being energised by the New Moon.

What part of life?

Each segment of the chart, we call them houses, represents a different part of life.

On the astro basics page, you’ll find a run down of what this means. Or, you can check out this post.

This is where the Moon is transiting.

  1. Any New Moon falling in angular houses ie the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th, will work more obviously and publicly. These houses are associated with
  2. The New Moon falling in succedent houses, ie the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th, will make you look more closely and work a little harder to identify and take advantage of the opportunity being presented to you. These houses are associated with
  3. The New Moon falling in cadent houses, ie the 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th, will require a deeper focus, an adjustment or change, and will ask you to think, observe and learn from something or someone.

This is the 9th house for me. I’m preparing a manuscript for publishing at the moment- trust me, I’m learning!

What planet or chart point is being aspected?

Look at the degree again. This month it’s 0. Now take a look around your chart.

Are there any planets between 0 and 2 degrees? Anywhere?

What about the degree that’s on your ASC or MC? This should be clearly marked on your chart. This is what I mean when I refer to chart points.

  1. Any planet within 2 degrees either side of the New Moon in the same sign as the New Moon is conjunct the New Moon. This month, that is any planet (or point) between 0-2 degrees Sagittarius.
  2. Any planet within 2 degrees (either side) in the sign opposite the New Moon is in opposition to the New Moon. This month, that is any planet (or point) between 0-2 degrees Gemini.
  3. Any planet within 2 degrees (either side) in the sign square the New Moon, and in the same modality to the New Moon is square to the New Moon. This month, that is any planet (or point) between 0-2 degrees Pisces or Virgo.
  4. Any planet within 2 degrees (either side) 3 signs around from the New Moon, in the same element as the New Moon is trine the New Moon. This month, that is any planet (or point) between 0-2 degrees Aries or Leo.
  5. Any planet within 2 degrees (either side) 2 signs around from the New Moon, in the same polarity as the New Moon is sextile the New Moon. This month, that is any planet (or point) between 0-2 degrees Aquarius or Libra.

Give emphasis to the personal planets- remember, everyone in your generation will have Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in a similar degree to you- what becomes important is not the aspect being made by the New Moon to these outers, but the aspects that those outer planets make within your natal chart that are, in turn, activated by the New Moon.

What is the nature of the aspect?

What is the nature of the aspect? This will tell you whether the transit will be “easy” or “hard”- and that doesn’t mean “good” or “bad.”

Que? Trines and sextiles are supportive, but if the situation promised is not a welcome one, it will happen quicker and easier than anticipated. Likewise, squares and oppositions are challenging and may make you work harder and wait longer for a promised but welcome situation.

Again, looking at my chart, this New Moon is trine my natal Saturn. Whatever is happening, will be happening easily. Although whenever Saturn is involved, so is hard work!

What does it mean?

In short, here are the guidelines I use- thanks to the remarkable The Eagle and the Lark, by Bernadette Brady:

  • What house is the Moon in natally? What house is the planet being transited by the Moon in natally? These areas will be where the transit starts to happen.
  • What house is Moon transiting? This is where the main action will be occurring.
  • What house/s is ruled by the Moon natally? What house is ruled natally by the planet being transited? These are the areas of life that will be affected by the outcome of the transit.

sag new moon

In my case, my natal Moon is in the 1st house and rules my 5th house. All New Moons will, for me begin with me, and have their outcome on my “babies”, i.e. everything in my 5th. The main action around this will occur in the house the New Moon falls in- in this case, the 9th. The story will be altered by any planets being aspected along the way.

This month, the New Moon is trine Saturn:

  1. The Moon is in the 1st, so is Saturn. These areas of life will be where the effects of the New Moon start to happen. This has everything to do with me.
  2. The Moon is transiting the 9th house- this is where the main action will be occurring. Study, travel, boundaries, publishing, beliefs etc
  3. The Moon rules my 5th house, and Saturn rules my 11th . There will be an impact on my 5th, as always, but this time it’s also something to do with hopes and dreams, contacts, social network and the reward from my labour.
  4. The nature is a trine, so, good or bad, it will happen easily.

Get it?

What if nothing happens?

Very often nothing will happen– even if the transit you’re receiving is an exact one…a direct hit. An event doesn’t necessarily need to be something that happens to you. In fact, more often than not, nothing actually happens. Sometimes it happens around you, sometimes it happens to someone close to you, sometimes it happens within you. I’ve learnt to see all of these things as being events. Events can be physical, emotional or relational.

There are no planets in the house receiving the New Moon?

That’s ok. This area of life will be activated regardless. Aspects made by the New Moon to planets in your chart will change the conversation that’s happening. No aspects, means general energy directed to that part of life. This house will have extra importance to you at this time.

Keep an eye on any longer lasting transits

The New Moon will activate the promise of any slow moving transit currently present in your life.

Set your intentions

Make them personal, make them achievable and make them relevant to the house receiving the New Moon. If it’s the 1st, you might want to make a few tweaks to your personal style, perhaps alter your behaviour or mask a tad. If it’s your 2nd, you might want to look at your budget, spending, attitude to money…you might want to clean out your wardrobe. Get it?

The Whole of the Moon: Sagittarius New Moon

18661570_s

As I mentioned last week, there’s been some pretty random, seriously shitty stuff that’s been circling around lately.

If you want to place an astrological blame around it- something, incidentally, I don’t particularly like to do, there are plenty of candidates. At the top of the list was Mars/Pluto square Uranus, although Saturn is never too far away when there are lessons to be learned.

There’s also been a line-up of Scorpio planets squaring Jupiter. Who can blame us if it’s felt more difficult, of late, to keep the faith?

Speaking of faith, here’s something I prepared for last years Sagittarius New Moon…

The New Moon is Sagittarius is always about hope, spontaneity, optimism, faith and adventure. Wherever it falls in your chart is where you need an injection of these things. For that reason, this is one of my favourite New Moons of the year.

This is the opportunists New Moon.

The other thing with the New Moon in Sagittarius is that you aren’t afraid to look up and out, to take that leap. Maybe you feel you have outgrown your present situation? Maybe it’s time to take the reins into your hands and gallop off into the sunset? Maybe it’s time to be honest with yourself and those around you? Maybe it’s time to reach for the Moon? Take a magic carpet ride? There is no limit to the possibilities.

I wondered, I guessed and I tried-
You just knew

I sighed-
And you swooned

Oh, and the song…it has to be Waterboys Whole of the Moonshows the absolute wonderous promise of Sagittarius. The lyrics are amazing. As always, all copyright to the artists. It reminds me of a balcony…and a man… in Darling Point on New Years Eve back in about 1986. I can’t remember his name, I vaguely recall that he was a muso, but I remember the song…and I still have no idea how my shoe ended up in the bowl of prawns.

New Moon in Sagittarius

The Moon is in Sagittarius. This means that in less than 24 hours we will have a New Moon.

The New Moon is Sagittarius is always about hope, spontaneity, optimism, faith and adventure. Wherever it falls in your chart is where you need an injection of these things. For that reason, this is one of my favourite New Moons of the year.

This is the opportunists New Moon.

Sagittarius is a sign that doesn’t mind a flutter and taking a risk or two to follow your dreams- whatever they happen to be. Add in independence seeking Uranus in a supportive, although wide-ish and separating trine, and your dream might very well be that of freedom, or at the very least, the freedom to follow your own path- however wide that may be. Perhaps even the freedom to be the person that somewhere along the line you forgot to be.

It doesn’t need to be difficult- it could be as simple as trying a new cuisine next time you eat out or, as we did yesterday, each of us had to order something we’d never sampled before from the yum cha cart. Something so easy, but our favourites had been tasting a little same same.

Sagittarius, for me, rules my Midheaven, my career zone. The degree of this New Moon, however, falls in my 9th.

On Saturday I had lunch with an astro friend. Sagittarius rules her 9th house. The topic of discussion? Aside from astrology, that is? Travel, freedom, why we do it, why we love it, what we get from it, how it energises us.

The intentions I’ll be setting this month will be done with the Sagittarian spark of freedom and soaring dreams. The sky is not the limit.

What about you? Do you have planets or chart points between 9-13 degrees of Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces? Pay special attention to personal planets or the Ascendant/Descendant or Midheaven/IC? Naturally, the tighter the orb, the more likely you will feel this one.

We are not far away from the Sagittarius New Moon, and a partial Solar Eclipse.

Eclipses, as we know, are extremely potent New Moons and usually herald change of some type. And the thing about change is that we can’t control it. The other thing about change is that it doesn’t necessarily have to be bad- even though it may often seem to be so- it just has to be different. It is the perspective that counts. Glass half full, glass half empty.

I was grounded
While you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truth
You cut through lies
I saw the rain dirty valley
You saw “Brigadoon”
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon

The change that occurs with eclipse is often the type that you feel building, like a pressure cooker, so that when it blows, it is sort of expected in an entirely unexpected way…if that makes any sort of weird Mercury retrograded sense.

The New Moon is Sagittarius is always about hope, spontaneity and adventure. Sagittarius is a sign that doesn’t mind a flutter and taking a risk or two to follow your dreams- whatever they happen to be. Add in an independence seeking trine from Uranus and your dream might very well be that of freedom, or at the very least, the freedom to follow your own path- however wide that may be.

The other thing with the New Moon in Sagittarius is that you aren’t afraid to look up and out, to take that leap. Maybe you feel you have outgrown your present situation? Maybe it’s time to take the reins into your hands and gallop off into the sunset. Maybe it’s time to be honest with yourself and those around you. Maybe it’s time to reach for the Moon. There is no limit to the possibilities.

I spoke about wings
You just flew
I wondered, I guessed and I tried
You just knew
I sighed
And you swooned
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial site, if you haven’t invested in this already, April Elliott Kent offers a great 3 year guide to eclipses against your natal chart. Check it out at her website. I refer to mine each time one of these comes around- actually that reminds me to contact her for a refresh.

As an example, this one falls in my 9th house square Mercury and represents a crisis of consciousness. Her words:

Having made decisions about your life’s purpose (and having made the break with the past necessary to move forward) while eclipses were in the tenth and fourth houses, it’s now time to embark upon your quest. Probably, you won’t feel up to the challenge; you’ll doubt that you have the skills, intellect, or preparation to move forward on your journey.

Being square Mercury, it also represents a crisis of identity:

Eclipses aspecting Mercury describe a time of being “between identities.” Often you’ve taken on a new title –“wife,” “doctor of philosophy,” “chairman of the board”– but don’t know how to reconcile this title with your own ideas about who you are. Or, you may have relinquished an old identity (a corporate executive, for instance, retires from his job of thirty years), leaving you unsure about what to call yourself.

This is a time to tell yourself new stories about what you want to be and how you’ve gotten to the place where you are. It is a cycle for mastering new skills and language for coping with your new path. It is a time when you might reach crisis in your relationships with siblings, neighbors, and coworkers – the people against which you most often evaluate and define yourself.

Given the endings that are presently occurring in the partition job and the beginnings that are around the corner, this eclipse (and the next) will be defining indeed. The change is hard and has (lately) involved a few too many tears, with more yet to come (hey, I’m a triple Pisces- what do you expect), but ultimately what is ahead is pure possibility and dissolving boundaries. And to someone influenced as much by Jupiter and Neptune as I am, there is nothing that is more exciting (or flipping petrifying) than that.

What about you? Do you have planets or chart points between 0-7 degrees of Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces? In particular personal planets or the Ascendant/Descendant or Midheaven/IC? Naturally, the tighter the orb, the more likely you will feel this one.

If you haven’t done so already, the New Moon energy will be with us for about 12 hours after the New Moon itself. Use it wisely to set your intentions or wishes.

The golden rule with New Moon wishing, or indeed any type of intention setting, is to dream of anything as long as:

  • It doesn’t impede any one else’s free will
  • It doesn’t hurt anyone else

Hmmm….that certainly takes at least two things off my list! Bugger, back to the drawing board…

Oh, and a song…it has to be Waterboys Whole of the Moonshows the absolute wonderous promise of Sagittarius. The lyrics are amazing. As always, all copyright to the artists.

Hope, Faith and Optimism

Pic by me.
Pic by me.

I am writing this from a seat in Perth Domestic Airport waiting for a flight home, hopeful that not only will the schedule the airline is operating to match mine, but also that my bag will depart on the same flight as I do.

Hope.

Last night I said a teary goodbye to a colleague and BFF who I am going to miss like hell. But with the goodbyes is a faith from both of us that not only will we stay in touch post partition, but that the ending that is happening will create a vacuum that opportunities can rush into. An optimism that endings will become beginnings.

Faith. Optimism. Hope. Three key words for the upcoming New Moon in Sagittarius (at around 2 Sagittarius, 4pmish Sydney time on Friday).

Coinciding with an eclipse, this is a super-charged New Moon, one in which you have permission to dream big, think big, and expand beyond your current boundaries.

A New Moon under which anything is possible- so be careful what you wish for and consider just how much you are prepared to risk for a chance to create your dreams. Interesting hey?

As with all New Moons, the dark precedes the light and things need to be finished or banished or whatever before space can be created for something new. Let go of what needs to be let go of, and take the time to clarify your intentions. Clarity being the point.

Mercury will be retrograde by the New Moon, so be extremely careful about committing to an action plan that will very likely require some review and adjustment.

Todays pic is of the Bell Tower down by the Swan River. I took this while out walking at 5.30 this morning…yep, there is no daylight saving in WA- apparently something about the chooks going off the lay.

Sagittarius New Moon- On Looking Forward, Three F Words and the Big Bang

Sagittarius 1

The Moon in Sagittarius is optimistic and forward focused. As someone who still looks under the lids of dietcoke bottles and fully expects to see the words “you’re a winner” I like that. But right now I am trying to look back. And finding it difficult.

Every year I complete a Tracey family newsletter which I send out to close friends & family- sort of a year in pictures & words. I asked my daughter what 2010 has been for her and she rolled her eyes and said “whatever”. I asked my husband and he said it was a year of “coming homes”… my coming home from wherever I had been… Me? How do you look back when every part of your being is wanting to look forward?

Sagittarius is adventurous and freedom loving- both physically and mentally. Sagittarius represents travel, spirituality, higher learning and religion- anything which expands your horizons on a physical or mental plane. The symbol of the archer directs energy outward to some distant point on the horizon, whilst the image of the centaur (half man, half horse) combines the energy of the intellect and higher learning with that of a body built to charge off towards whatever. Check out the bottom half of the centaur- the powerful thighs of the horse. Sagittarius rules the bum and the thighs, those big muscle groups that power us towards whatever life’s adventure may be and over those distant fences with an absolute fearlessness and complete faith.

Don’t fence me in is the motto for whatever part of life Sagittarius rules for you. In my case, Sagittarius rules the career and public spaces of my chart. It is this part of my life that I want to explore and remove fences in. It is this part of life that I will more strongly defend the stuff that I believe in. And these three “F” words- forward motion, fearlessness and faith- are what this New Moon represents for me. Falling within a degree of my Midheaven, this years cycle will be about career and how the world sees me. Faith to let go of the old and move forward without fear is the key message for me…what will it be for you?

Jupiter is the ruler of this New Moon, so have a look at where Jupiter sits in your chart and what aspects are being made to it. Anything? Is transiting Jupiter hitting anything in your natal chart? Again in my case, transiting Jupiter is sitting exactly on my Part of Fortune and making supportive aspects to pretty well every other main planet in my chart- Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus, the Sun & the Moon. Likewise Uranus (sitting almost stationary just a few minutes off my Moon) is activating the same points. If I were my own astrologer, I probably would be telling me that this is a cycle not be wasted on faffing around on dreams and fantasies that never come out of the bucket and onto the table because I’m too scared. I would be telling me that this cycle, this time is Big. And with Mars currently squaring off against my Moon, I actually may have the courage to do something about it (although the only indication of assertiveness over the last few days has been a collection of random outbursts… :()

Big is another Jupiterian/ Sagitarian concept, but we tend to think of Big things as either physically big or something actually happening that we see as Big. Sure, any Jupiter transit will make you physically bigger if you withdraw within yourself rather than venture out into the world. Likewise, the stuff that happens may be doors opening, opportunities grabbed hold of, trips taken, books opened that set of a series of light bulbs. Rather than a Big Bang, it may be a chain reaction of a lot of little things that in combination adds up to something Big.

This New Moon links supportively through to Saturn, giving us a hint that the Big stuff won’t happen without some hard work, long term planning and sensible structures. For all of us out there with a strong Jupiter & a pretty bad Saturn, these concepts are both unfamiliar and unwelcome…but necessary. Jupiter broadcasts and publishes, Saturn teaches. Jupiter pushes us out and beyond, Saturn reminds us of our boundaries. Jupiter loves and travels freely, Saturn brings us home to our commitments and responsibilities. Jupiter takes risks, Saturn mitigates those risks. Used properly together, Jupiter and Saturn can be a formidable and successful team…worth thinking about this New Moon?

Also important tomorrow is Uranus who will turn direct within a few hours of the New Moon. Check out my post for a little of what this means, but more on this later… for now, in relation to the New Moon, think about what part of you is making a bid for freedom, individuality. How does that correspond to your Sagittarius/ Jupiter message?

For me? I have a newsletter to complete and a passport to renew!
