Something about pathways and getting lost and found…

Yellow sign in the forest

Moon in Taurus

I’ve been making lime marmalade.

For those of you not accustomed to making lime marmalade, you start with 2kgs of limes. This equates to about a million.

You juice each of them and then thinly slice the skins- and I mean thinly slice. This should take most of the day and will leave your fingers and knife gripping hand totally numb.

Then you simmer them in half of the juice and a little water until the skins are tender. This gives your hands time to recover.

Then you add 2kgs of sugar and bubble it all until it becomes gel like. Then you pour it carefully into jars and miss-matched lids that you’ve unearthed from their hiding spot in the back of the pantry, washed in boiling water and sterilised in the oven.

While all this is going on, I was doing my nerdy thing and listening to a podcast.

It was about this woman who, as the result of a mishap with anaesthetic has lost her memory, completely, for a period of time- it was 6 months or so before things began to come back to her.

Partnered up, with two children, a high-powered job, she had no recollection of anything.

Wow.

After a few months she went back to work and even though she had no corporate memory, she re-trained in her old job and was even more effective than before. Why? Because she had no recollection of what failing felt like.

Likewise, her relationship strengthened- not just because he hung around and built new memories with her, but because she had no recollection of what it meant to risk yourself in a relationship and she couldn’t remember how it was not to trust.

Wow.

And it made me wonder just what I’d do if I didn’t know what failure or rejection or hurt or heartbreak felt like.

The pattern in the skies at the moment with all of its myriad of possibilities and opportunities is a little like this. Think about it like an intricate set of paths, all opening up just for you. Sure it might seem a little like a maze and who knows whether the path you take is going to be the right one, but the very possibility that it could be is what makes it all so exciting.

  1. Re the podcast – what an inspiring story of courage, determination, perseverance and vulnerability!

Re the lime marmalade – OMGoodness, what a tedious chore..but your reward will be in the eating. Lime marmalade is delish! My lime tree has fruited well this season too. Yesterday I was squeezing the juice into ice cube trays to freeze. Then I pop them into a freezer container so I have it available when I want. With the skins, I’m peeling and putting into a jar with white vinegar. After a couple of weeks I strain the peel and use the lime scented/oiled vinegar for cleaning – much nicer and healthier and ‘greener’ than store bought spray & wipe! I do the same with my lemons too.

    🙂
