Jupiter sextile Pluto

Jupiter sextile Pluto is possibly the stand-out aspect of the month – and one of the key aspects for this year. The first of three meetings between these two planets occurs just 24 hours (or so – I’ve never been great at maths) before the New Moon – and I for one don’t believe in coincidences like that. It feels awfully like a chance for regeneration or repurposing to me.

Sextiles tend to indicate opportunities, and sextiles between planets in feminine signs (Scorpio and Capricorn respectively) usually mean that you need to go inward to find the opportunity – it’s not one that will be jumping up and down waving with a great big sign on its head. It could even be masquerading as something that looks nothing like your big chance – that’s the thing about sextiles.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. What this aspect could bring is growth through positive change, advancement at a higher level, an ability to influence others and make inroads into the achievement of your goals – whether they be personal or professional.

This is one of those be careful what you wish for moments – because there is a possibility that you may get it. Maybe not today or tomorrow or even next week, but if you jump at what’s opening up…or open the doors yourself…it could bring you closer to what you want. And when I talk about what you want, I’m referring to your ambitions and deep soul level goals that you mightn’t want to say out loud. Just ensure that what you’re seeking will be for the betterment of more than just your ego. Both Jupiter and Pluto are more about the good of the collective than power for its own sake.

Another thing about opportunities like this – even if they don’t appear to be behaving in the way that you would expect them to, it doesn’t necessarily follow that the path you’re being led down is the wrong one.

Finally, when it comes to aspects, don’t overlook the possibility that the opportunity for growth or power or significance will come in the form of a person rather than an event. It could be someone that’s new in your life or someone whose depth and importance to you has been overlooked or taken for granted. Jupiter people tend to be teachers or spiritual/religious advisors or leaders, Pluto people bring with them influence and power.

Consider this when you’re setting your New Moon intentions over the next couple of days. What steps can you take now that will might result in profound changes to your life? Write them down.

As I mentioned before, the first of these meetings will be exact at 19 Scorpio 1′ and 19 Capricorn 17′ on 16 Jan, 2018 (or thereabouts, depending on where in the world you live), but the influence is with us now.

Use this first pass to look at the affairs of these houses and ask these questions:

  • Are you holding onto an out-dated version of yourself?
  • Are you refusing to change and grow, afraid of what might be exposed if you do?
  • Do you need to “lighten up” or be “enlightened”?
  • Are you holding onto the past or remaining in a situation that is no longer working simply because it’s easier to do this and uncomfortable to move?
  • Where do you need to be regenerated?

The answers probably won’t smack you in the face – answers don’t tend to do that – but events and people can. As you read the signs that are presented to you over the next couple of months, note them down. Is there one theme coming up more often than another?

Jupiter and Pluto align again in the middle of April at 21 Scorpio/Capricorn – Jupiter will be retrograde. Although the date the aspect is exact is 14 April, the energy will be present before and after.

The final pass is exact-ish on 12 September 2018 when Jupiter is direct again. I’d suggest asking the same set of questions again at that point – it would be interesting if your answers have changed in the meantime.

Now, before you start worrying that you’ll never remember all of this, I’ll remind you at or around each of the planetary hook-ups. As for me? I’m off to ask myself the same set of questions…no peeking at my answers!

Pluto direct – a cosmic detox

Every so often our personal power feels a little (ahem) constipated. Stuck. In need of a little, shall we say, cosmic fibre to get it all moving again.

Perhaps you have been feeling like that lately? Like the projects, the real transformative projects, have lost their momentum. Perhaps you’re feeling a little out of control, as if your hands are no longer on the steering wheel. As if that big life-changing change that has been just around the corner for ages is still just around the corner and not getting any closer. Like you’ve started something Big and somehow had lost direction, momentum and control.

It’s at this point that emotions can boil over. Usually it’s a combination of frustration, coloured with a little obsession, more than a little mis-directed self loathing, and a feeling of loss of power and hurry-up already. While mini emotional detoxes such as these are rarely enjoyable, sometimes they are required to enable you to clear whatever it is that is blocking your personal drains and free your energy for the next phase of your project.

What I’m describing is Pluto stationing direct. Pluto is about power, ambition, transformation, truth and elimination, so it’s natural that after 6 months of that energy being turned inward, something needs to give.

The stationing point is always a powerful one – especially if it triggers something else in your chart. If your transformational projects have been feeling stuck, they will very soon start to move. It’s time to eliminate any of the crud that is holding you back from being who you need to be or doing what you need to be doing.

And crud, is very often what it is. This is real truth or dare time.

I’m relatively fortunate, in my case the aspect being made is a sextile to my Ascendant – albeit an exact one. It’s an opportunity to grasp my power in all its dubious glory, and move forward. When Pluto is involved, it’s usually more of an offer that you can’t refuse. Having said that, acceptance of Pluto sextile and trine opportunities make the harder aspects somehow easier to deal with when they come. Somewhat. In theory part of the work has been done.

In any case, have a think about what this is activating for you. Is there any part of your life that is in need of a little cosmic help to get things moving again? Your clue will be that part of your chart that holds 16 Capricorn 51′.

Jupiter square Pluto: being a force of the awesome…

Continuing my mini-series of key planetary aspects for 2017…

This year I’ve set myself some serious goals. Big, hairy-arsed goals. Goals so huge that I can’t see over the top of them – although given that I’m pretty short and need a step ladder to reach the top shelf in the kitchen, that part isn’t surprising. Yes, they’re audacious, but in a year where we’re throwing everything in the air to move over 1000kms away, moderation doesn’t really cut it.

The thing is, there’ll be plenty of people out there who’ll say I can’t get there, that I’ll fall at the first post, that I’m aiming too high. There’ll be plenty of other people and events this year that will throw obstacles in my way. The biggest of those, I suspect, will be the house move and relocation. Bigger even than that are the excuses I make for myself.

Let’s break it down:

  • Jupiter is about faith, expansion, trust, abundance. Jupiter wants you to be “bigger” than you are – to expand past your existing boundaries.
  • Pluto is about transformation, power, ambition, depth, intensity. Pluto wants you to be the best, most honest version of yourself. He wants you to achieve your ambitions and reach your potential. If Jupiter is associated with fortune, Pluto is also associated with money, so this is not the time to take on more debt than you can afford…if, indeed, there ever is a time to take on more debt than you can afford.
  • The square is about tension, potential, difficulties, challenges, obstacles, a sense that someone or something has happened that forces you to take action – probably action you hadn’t expected to have to take. Your action is a consequence of what has happened, not necessarily any decision you’ve made.

Ok, so putting it all together, what does it mean?

In a way, Jupiter square Pluto is about renovation. It could be a house, a job, aspirations, health, finances, relationship, perhaps something bigger than you…you name it. But this is about more than the proverbial lick of paint, this is much more fundamental than that – it’s more of a knock down, rebuild type of project…so to speak. And yes, it’s obvious that I’m spending way too much time on real estate sites at the moment.

You could find that some structures are demolished around you – and as difficult and painful as it is to understand or acknowledge, maybe they needed to be. Perhaps that wall needed to be broken through or knocked down so you can see what’s beyond it, or what could be built in its place.

And the obstacles? It could be a person, an event, an authority figure, a rule…or, indeed, yourself. Don’t discount that the difficulties you’re seeing are perceived rather than real – and possibly not as insurmountable as they at first appear.

The Timing?

This aspect will be exact on 30/3/17 and 4/8/17. The two planets are, however, within a couple of degrees apart from mid March- Mid April and again from Mid July- mid August

Who is impacted?

While Jupiter square Pluto will form part of the astro weather forecast for all of us during March- April and July- August, the people most impacted will be:

  • Anyone whose Ascendant or Sun is ruled by Jupiter or Pluto – that means Pisces, Sagittarius or Scorpio. More specifically:
  • In March/ April: Jupiter square Pluto will be exact at 19 Libra/Capricorn. Anyone with planets (especially personal planets) or chart points at between 17-21 Aries, Libra, Capricorn or Cancer.
  • In July/ August: Jupiter square Pluto will be exact at 17 Libra/ Capricorn. Anyone with planets (especially personal planets) or chart points at between 15-19 Aries, Libra, Capricorn or Cancer.

Not sure if this is you?

Duck back and check out the toolkit I published the other day for all the links you need.

The advice?

Expect resistance and conflict – even if you’re actively attempting to avoid that. Jupiter inspires trust, and Pluto demands honesty and integrity, so by all means stand up for what you believe in, but don’t try and force it down the throat of others. Speaking of which, when it comes to standing your ground, it helps if you know that ground is steady and your opinion true. You know the saying about people in glasshouses throwing stones.

The thing is, whenever Pluto is involved, it pays to ensure your endeavours re legitimate, your motivation is pure and your integrity is intact.

Keep that in mind and you could seriously be a force of the awesome.

Tomorrow: Venus Retrograde

Don’t forget, if you want to stay on top of your daily forecasts, you can pick up a copy of the astro diary that I collaborated on, or you can bag yourself a copy of Sally Kirkman’s 2017 Horoscope

Cosmic Detox…Pluto direct.

Something about Bin Night…and Pluto Retrograde

Taking out the Trash

Pluto Retrograde

So anyways, I have a purge planned for this long weekend.

Partly it’s because I should be painting, but mostly because it feels as though our house just needs a good detox.

I’m fortunate to have plenty of storage in our house, but just lately things have felt cluttered and close…and stale. Something needs to be eliminated. It feels as though things need to be pared back, as though the shelves in the cupboards, the compartments, the filled corners, are reflective of my headspace.

As I’ve mentioned before, stuff is going on around me, and it’s stuff that’s not great. While I mightn’t be able to control what’s going on out there, I do have some say over what’s happening in here.

This deliberate elimination is very Plutonian- which is prefect timing given that Pluto has now stationed retrograde and will re-trace his steps through until 25 September (or thereabouts). As with all retrograde planets, the retrograde motion makes Pluto act, well, more Plutonian and Plutonian people even more susceptible to Pluto. How do you know if you’re Plutonian? Check out this fun quiz from Donna Cunningham.

When a planet is retrograde, the energy is directed inward rather than externally. In Pluto’s case, it acts sort of like a planetary detox where the crap (for want of a better term) in our lives is eliminated (a very Pluto word). This can be emotions we have been holding onto, attitudes or values which should have changed or evolved, vendettas we should have let go of, revenge fantasies we are just waiting for the right moment to act upon (ooops, that’s me!), secrets that you have been keeping under wraps.

Generally speaking, Pluto issues and events are the ones that we simply don’t want to have to face. It’s the intense stuff of life, it’s the death stuff of life, it’s the dark stuff of life…it’s endings, it’s beginnings, it’s also our own personal underworld.

Daily Quotes-5

This is why sometimes we need to access this another way- a more representational or metaphorical way…such as an overcrowded craft cupboard, a dusty bookshelf, a wardrobe full of clothes that are no longer fit for purpose. The physical purge often allows you to access your own hidden spaces and see what is waiting to emerge.

Even if you’re not receiving a Pluto transit right now, you might find that Pluto themes are being brought to the surface at the moment- and will be again in September when Pluto stations to go direct.

For those of you who are strongly influenced by Pluto or currently experiencing major Pluto transits (especially anyone with the Sun, Moon or ascendant at or around 14-17 Cancer, Capricorn, Libra or Aries), this will be a big thing. Now is the time to do some internal Pluto work on yourself- a physical detox, heavy meditation- anything that is regenerative and gets you back in touch with the innermost core of you.

As with all retrograde cycles, the critical points are the station degrees- in this case 17 Capricorn 29’ where he is stationing retrograde and 14 Capricorn 55’ where he will station to turn direct. These are points of pretty huge transformation and metamorphosis if they happen to fall on a sensitive point in your natal chart. I’m not talking orbs here- when it comes to station points I’m talking direct hits. To the degree.

Because Pluto moves so slowly, the orbs of influence are very narrow. If he turns retrograde even a degree before exacting an aspect, you may get just a passing glance…this time. The thing with Pluto though, is there’ll always be a next time…and usually a next, and a next.

Pluto retrogrades may bring expansion or loss of power, manipulation, obsession, ambition and power struggles. They can also raise issues of sex, life, death, rebirth…but Pluto does not necessarily equal bad. It might be truths that we’re not yet ready to handle, endings we’re not yet ready to accept, beginnings that seem way too far away.

Daily Quotes-4

Your Pluto transit might be crap. It might also be hard, challenging and all those other words we like to use to describe crap where it does hit your chart. It might also be empowering and bring with it the breakthrough you’ve been waiting for. Ultimately though, Pluto transits can also be healing and transforming.

That principle applies to the most random and shittiest of shitty Pluto transits- although you won’t be ready to hear this (or see this) until you’re a few or many years down the track- indeed, you might never be ready…and that’s ok.

Whatever happens there is no escaping the effect…Pluto is like that…but hanging onto whatever you’re hanging onto won’t help. Throw it out…if you can…with the trash. Who knows what treasures have been hidden?

Pluto Retrograde

So anyways, I have a purge planned for this weekend.

Partly it’s yet another procrastination exercise in avoiding the acknowledgements I have to write for “Baby It’s You.” Yes, I know it’s only about 200 words which, after a 98000 word manuscript that has been re-written a gazillion million times, is a drop in the ocean, but it’s sooooooo hard.

It’s also part of the whole greet the New Moon with a clean slate attitude, but more than that it feels as though our house just needs a good detox.

I’m fortunate to have plenty of storage in our house, but just lately things have felt cluttered and close…and stale. Something needs to be eliminated. It feels as though things need to be pared back, as though the shelves in the cupboards, the compartments, the filled corners, are reflective of my headspace.

Something this week has brought death randomly and unexpectedly way too close to my door. It’s a theme that has been on repetition for the past couple of months. While I mightn’t be able to control what’s going on out there, I do have some say over what’s happening in here.

Something about dumping the waste…

Pluto Retrograde

In the interests of time and laziness, I’ve updated last years post…

In my younger less married days I used to love doing the Cleo and Cosmo sex quizzes on the train to work. Learned some interesting things from them too… but obviously that is not for here… I would make sure that I counted the score in my head so no one reading over my shoulder could see my answers and therefore know what I really thought about doing _______, or whether I really would be likely to________ or indeed had done_______ where? Really? There?

Recently I have been having some fun with a series of Outer Planet point scoring quizzes that Donna Cunningham has been running on her Skywriter website. Just like the Cleo & Cosmo sex quizzes I have learned a lot, but this time the things I have learned have been about myself and are therefore possibly more useful in everyday life- or so I would hope.

Obviously I am so much more mature now too, so am going to publish my results for all to see- the results are possibly not as interesting (to some) as the sex quiz stuff, but some things are best left to the imagination.

First up was How Plutonian are you? Being so Piscean, I always knew that I was pretty influenced by Neptune, but the Pluto result blew me away. Using her system (check it out here), my Pluto score was a massive 74 points. Anything over 25pts is seen as being very Plutonian, with association with all the good and bad sides of Pluto and Scorpio  (see Donna’s article for more explanation– Donna is the expert on all things Pluto): power, control, trust, holding on to things & feelings, revenge, obsession, healing, transformation. Looking honestly at myself, I do have to say it is all true- the good & the bad. With most of my Piscean planets in opposition to Pluto & with Pluto sitting right on my Descendant, the struggle with trust & power & control- particularly in relationships has been constant battle.

Anyways, in a few hours, Pluto will officially station retrograde and will re-trace his steps through until 22 September (or thereabouts). As with all retrograde planets, the retrograde motion makes Pluto act, well, more Plutonian and Plutonian people even more susceptible to Pluto.

As with all retrogrades, the energy is directed inward rather than externally. In Plutos’ case, it acts sort of like a planetary detox where the crap (for want of a better term) in our lives is eliminated (a very Pluto word). This can be emotions we have been holding onto, attitudes or values which should have changed or evolved, vendettas we should have let go of, revenge fantasies we are just waiting for the right moment to act upon (ooops, that’s me!), secrets that you have been keeping under wraps.

For those of you who are strongly influenced by Pluto or currently experiencing major Pluto transits (especially anyone with the Sun, Moon or ascendant at or around 10-14 Cancer, Capricorn, Libra or Aries), this will be a big thing. Now is the time to get rid of those photos (you know the ones at the back of your drawer of X with Y), or, alternatively do some internal Pluto work on yourself- a physical detox, heavy meditation- anything that is regenerative and gets you back in touch with the innermost core of you. Pluto retrogrades often bring sudden expansion or loss of power, manipulation, obsession and power struggles are the order of the day.

As with all retrograde cycles, the critical points are the station degrees- in this case 13 Capricorn 35’ where he is stationing retrograde and 11 Capricorn 00’ where he will station to turn direct. These are points of pretty huge transformation and metamorphosis if they happen to fall on a sensitive point in your natal chart. I’m not talking orbs here- when it comes to station points I’m talking direct hits. To the degree.

I have a friend who has the Midheaven at 11 Capricorn 22’. That’s close enough for the impact of a Pluto station… Last year Pluto stationed retrograde at this point and, let’s just say, things got interesting- in a deeply transformational way. This year Pluto will station direct at this point in September. I’m expecting that things that began last year will begin to resolve.

Pluto’s a little like that- because he moves so slowly, the orbs of influence are very narrow. If he turns retrograde even a degree before exacting an aspect, you may get just a passing glance…this time. The thing with Pluto though, is there’ll always be a next time…and usually a next, and a next.

Now, this is the bit where I have to have a good hard talk to some of you guys- Pluto does not necessarily equal bad, so don’t look for negativity where there may be potential. Sure it may be crap. It will also be hard, challenging and all those other words we like to use to describe crap where it does hit your chart, but a Pluto transit can also be healing, manifesting and transforming ie ultimately powerfully cool. And that applies to the shittiest of shitty Pluto transits- although you mightn’t want to hear this until a few years down the track.

Whatever happens there is no escaping the effect…Pluto is like that…but trust me, hanging onto those photos, revenge fantasies and whatever will not help. Let em’ go…if you can…

Something about being on top of the world…

iStock_000021022342XSmall

There’s this line in Imagine Dragon’s On Top of the World that I’ve been singing all day:

“Been waiting on this for a while now

Paying my dues to the dirt

I’ve been waiting to smile, ay

Been holding it in for a while, ay

Take you with me if I can

Been dreaming of this since a child

I’m on top of the world.”

Today I pre-recorded what will be a regular stint on a new lifestyle radio show. I can’t tell you much more than that…yet…but, this song is exactly how I feel- as if things are coming together. Sure, there’s still a way to go, but little victories like this are enough to push the doubts away- at least for now.

That’s why this song, to me, today, is the Venus-Pluto conjunction.

Sure Venus-Pluto is also about intensity in relationships. But then, if you have Venus in Scorpio or Venus aspecting Pluto natally, you will know all about this. I’ve written about this before, so won’t go there again.

And, with this conjunction happening in Capricorn, reality and honesty is very necessary to effect lasting change in relationships. Playing it by the rules and within approved structures, so to speak. To take it one step further, you could use this conjunction in your business relationships to fuel power and ambition…just a thought.

Don’t just look at your own chart here. Think about that of those you are in relationships with.

A Venus/Pluto contact can happen through synastry. It can occur if you are involved with someone who has a Venus/Pluto signature.

There may be someone who you allow to control you, or manipulate you or possess you. If you look at the charts of these people, it’s likely that you will find a Scorpio or Venus/Pluto aspect there…or even an 8th house contact by synastry

There may be someone in your life who forces you to see something about yourself that you wanted to keep hidden. There may be someone in your life that transforms you, brings you to life. There could be someone who helps you destroy something that is no longer good for you. There could be someone who, through relationship, changes you, provides opportunities to achieve the things you always dreamed of.

Which brings to mind another song that’s been on my head all day- Love Supreme, by Robbie Williams.

The technical details: Venus/Pluto conjunction is exact tomorrow morning (Sydney time), but the influence will continue to be felt through the weekend. If you have planets or chart points (look mainly at the personal planets ie Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ascendant, Midheaven) at or around 9 degrees Capricorn, Aries, Libra, Cancer you will feel this intensity. Planets at 9 degrees Pisces, Scorpio, Taurus, Virgo will also be influenced.

If you are a Venus/Pluto type natally, this universal aspect is likely to feed into your own story- just as it has done for me today…
