The first thing we need to know about Mars in Libra is that Mars is in his detriment here – he’s operating from a sign where he doesn’t feel at all comfortable.
Now, this doesn’t mean that it’s good or bad, it just means that a planet in the sign of his detriment – opposite the sign he rules – is the planetary equivalent of finding yourself somewhere completely unfamiliar with completely the wrong wardrobe, no local phrasebook, and rupiah when you need euros. You need to find another way to get what you need.
Libra, you see, is a Venus-ruled sign and is all about pleasure, balance, peace and connections. Mars, on the other hand, is driven to win and push forward; peace is the least of his concern. As for balance – what’s that? And who needs connections when you’re perfectly capable of doing something for yourself?
While Libra is about evaluating the options and consulting with interested parties, bringing people of like minds together to achieve an outcome that will be a win for everyone, Mars just wants to get on with it already.
So, while Mars isn’t operating from a place where he’s at his best, this energy can absolutely be used for good. In Libra, Mars’ energy is directed towards the process of relating. In Libra he gets what he wants by being charming, using diplomacy and finding the compromise points in all situations. He achieves his goals by using his head and his connections, not his brawn. He searches for peace, harmony, beauty and balance.
Doing it for yourself…
We all have Libra somewhere in our chart, and it’s this part of life that’s about to get an energy hit from Mars.
Mars in Libra will transit my 8th house. It’s a great time for me to get my taxes done (and therefore stop my husband asking me every second day how I’m going with that task). Mars in Libra is providing me with the energy to deal with a few other 8th house matters that are on the horizon – and hopefully the diplomacy to cope with issues around these.
