Mars in Libra

The first thing we need to know about Mars in Libra is that Mars is in his detriment here – he’s operating from a sign where he doesn’t feel at all comfortable. A planet in the sign of his detriment – opposite the sign he rules, is the planetary equivalent of finding yourself somewhere completely unfamiliar with completely the wrong wardrobe, no local phrasebook, and rupiah when you need euros. You need to find another way to get what you need.

You see, Libra is a Venus-ruled sign and is all about pleasure, balance, peace and connections. Mars, on the other hand, is driven to win and push forward. Peace is the least of his concern. As for balance – what’s that? And who needs connections when you’re perfectly capable of doing something for yourself?

Libra is about evaluating the options and consulting with interested parties, bringing people of like minds together to achieve an outcome that will be a win for everyone. Mars just wants to get on with it already.

So, while Mars isn’t operating from a place where he’s at his best, this energy can absolutely be used for good. In Libra, Mars’ energy is directed towards the process of relating. In Libra he gets what he wants by being charming, using diplomacy and finding the compromise points in all situations. He achieves his goals by using his head and his connections, not his brawn. He searches for peace, harmony, beauty and balance.

Doing it for yourself…

We all have Libra somewhere in our chart, and it’s this part of life that’s about to get an energy hit from Mars.

Pull your chart out and look for the symbol of Libra.

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide below.

Venus in Libra

Venus is about to move into Libra- the sign that she rules (remember back to this Toolbox?). This means that she likes being in Libra – a lot. She’s supremely comfortable, in her own home, so to speak.

Venus loves pleasure – and the things and activities and people that bring us pleasure or that we find pleasure in…and so does Libra. Beauty is just one of these things, so is style, peace and balance.

Anyways, if you want to know more about Venus in Libra, I just happened to have prepared something (much) earlier. You’ll find it here,

If you’re a Libran woman (or love one), or have Venus in Libra you might want to read this. Again, you’ll find it here.

Doing it for yourself…

We all have Libra somewhere in our chart, and it’s this part of life that Venus will be bestowing her presence on. It’s this part of life that you’ll find pleasure in. Whatever and wherever Libra means for you, look for the enjoyment in it.

I have to admit to struggling a little (personally) with Libran energy. I suspect that it’s because I don’t have any planets in Libra. Indeed, I don’t have any planets in Air signs. I’m also quite introverted by nature and all too often don’t want to be social. Nor do I want to make an effort with my appearance – although goodness knows it wouldn’t hurt me to put a face on every now and again, or wear shoes rather than flip flops. And a little balance would be nice, I suppose…

Anyways, in my chart, while in Libra, Venus will be transiting the 8th house. I’m yet to do my taxes – that will definitely be happening before October 31.

If you have your chart already, look for the symbol for Venus, now find Libra on your chart. This post will help you do that.

If you don’t have your chart, read this post on how to get one.

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer, Venus will be transiting your 4th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo, Venus will be transiting your 3rd house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo, Venus will be transiting your 2nd house.

Venus will be in Libra until 7/11/17.

Mercury in Libra

We can learn a lot about how we communicate, learn, and think from where Mercury is in our chart. It’s not just what we say, but how we say it – and how we hear, absorb and understand the messages coming from others.

If you have Mercury in one of the Air signs, you probably learn and communicate through making connections – in the case of Libra, through bringing people together. If you have Mercury in Libra, your interest is likely to be stimulated through actual conversation and interaction with others – and you learn best in the company of others.

What has this got to do with anything? Mercury moves out of Virgo and into Libra today. He’s gathering up some speed and won’t be here long- just until October 17th.

If you want to know more about Mercury in Libra, or how Libra thinks and learns, here’s something I prepared much earlier

Doing it for yourself…

While Mercury is in Libra, take the opportunity to learn more about the part of your life that Libra rules by seeing it through the eyes and words and interactions with others. Seek out like minded people – or those who can provide a balanced perspective to a subject you’re curious about.

If you have a decision to make regarding the affairs of your Libra house, make sure that you seek out all the information in order to form a balanced view and judgement.

If you don’t have your chart, read this post on how to get one.

Happy Birthday Libra

In my downtime (now, there’s a joke) I’m re-watching a series on itunes that personally I don’t think had enough seasons…but then me and the programming or commissioning departments of major TV stations have rarely seen eye to eye. The show is Fairly Legal, and the lead character is Kate Reed, a mediator.

Kate is beautiful and can somehow run around San Francisco in teetering heels (who can do that in real life?). She likes balance, and she likes the middle ground. She brings people together, allows them each to have their say, and then helps each see the other’s view to reach an agreement where (usually) both sides walk away having felt as though they’ve won – unless they’ve treated someone unfairly, in which case they’ll lose. She fights for the underdog and she seeks justice for all. Her favourite term is win-win. She gets her own way with a wide, engaging smile and a flick of her fabulous hair. What Kate can’t do is put herself first, or work out what or who she wants.

When Ben Grogan (one of the two men she’s deciding between) tells her that the case she’s working on doesn’t require a mediator, it requires a decision, she almost hyperventilates. Of course the whole episode is a metaphor for the decision she has to make between Ben and her ex-husband and Assistant DA Justin.

My point? Libra…Kate is pure Libra…and the Sun is moving into Libra tomorrow. If you want to know more about Libra, it just so happens that I’ve prepared something…much earlier. You’ll find it here.

Doing it for yourself…

We all have Libra somewhere in our chart. It’s in this part of life that we’re looking for peace, balance, harmony and collaboration.

Check out where Libra is in your chart – that’s where you’re getting the warmth of the Sun’s energy right now. Why not use it to do a health check on the balance in this part of your life? Are you valuing your own contributions enough? Do you need to ask for help? It’s the perfect time to seek the partnership or input of others in this part of your life – just be sure not to allow their opinions and needs to eclipse yours.

Libra is 8th house for me and my first Libra task is to get the taxes ready for the accountant. Libra time is also when I look closely at our money and budget – the resources of our relationship – and see whether we’re spending more than we should in any single part of life. What follows is usually my own negotiation and mediation!

Mercury in Libra…

confused young man pondering all the choices

Mercury tells us, as we know from Toolbox 2.3, a lot about how we communicate, learn, and think. It’s not just what we say, but how we say it; and how we hear, absorb and understand the messages coming from others.

Mercury in Air signs learns and communicates through making connections- in the case of Libra through bringing people together. If you have Mercury in Libra, your interest is stimulated through actual conversation and interaction with others- and you learn best in the company of others.

What has this got to do with anything? Mercury moves out of Virgo and into Libra today. He’s gathering up some speed and won’t be here long- just until October 25th.

Big Big Love? Jupiter in Libra…

shutterstock_149145194

Jupiter moves into Libra on Thursday. This is a big thing- any change of signs by one of the heavier hitters in the Universe is good, but Jupiter, well Jupiter does nothing in a small way.

He wasn’t that comfortable in Virgo. Jupiter, you see, is a big picture guy and Virgo likes details. Nope, not comfortable at all. Work, health, routine…yep, bored already. What’s next? Don’t get me wrong, these things are absolutely fine, but Jupiter’s not into that.

As for what we can expect when Jupiter is in Libra? Let’s break it down.

Libra is about balance, peace, fairness, beauty, style, partnership, connections, bringing people together. Libra is highly social.

Jupiter seeks out experiences, pushes past boundaries, exaggerates and makes things bigger.

Put these two together and, I don’t know about you, but I’m sensing one big glamorous party- and Jupiter loves excess and abundance. Of course I exaggerate- but that’s ok, we’re talking about Jupiter. Style Queen meets Party King? I’m saying yes to that particular over-the-top invite.

The thing is Jupiter in Libra will seek out these Libran pursuits with an optimism that says yeah, we can have more balance; life can be fairer, more just, more harmonious and more beautiful.

The other thing that Jupiter actively looks to do in Libra is expand or grow through relationship. Now, before you all rush off and yell for joy, this doesn’t necessarily mean plain sailing and happy ever afters in the love and romance stakes. It’s not enough to come together, it’s about how you grow and what you learn through relationship- and when I say relationship I’m talking about all relationships. That means new relationships, old relationships, broken relationships, breaking relationships, relationships with people who actively oppose you and the ones with people who don’t like you. All relationships.

Jupiter will present the opportunities and you need to figure out what to do with them- bearing in mind that the opportunity could include a new and exciting partnership; or a realisation that you have stagnated within an existing relationship. The opportunities you’re presented with could be a realisation of what you want in a relationship via the people closest to you- or the ones most opposed to you. The opportunity could be learning about how you relate (or how you want to relate) through the eyes or experience of another. It could be a chance to revive something that’s old but still precious- a new adventure in an existing commitment.

Another word of warning- if warning is the right word in this circumstance- there’s no accident that Saturn is exalted in Libra…and that’s because relationships need to be worked at in order to continue to exist and in order to continue to provide expansion and learning for both partners. And where Jupiter fails to expand existentially, he tends to expand physically- if you know what I mean. Yep, comfort eating, boredom eating, stuck in a rut, life is no longer an adventure and piling on the layers in front of the telly eating. Most of us know someone who has subconsciously made herself less attractive in order to avoid the temptation to stray from a commitment that no longer offers what it once did. Layers can be safe- but oh so limiting. Just saying.

So yes, there will be opportunity around relationship- but that will manifest in different ways for each of us. Oh, and if there’s a relationship in your life that’s reached the end of its natural life, Jupiter in Libra could help you see past the details to the bigger, wider picture and possibly even find a way to make the ending as fair and just and equable as is remotely possible. Don’t look at me like that- I did say maybe. Was it Gwyneth that coined the term conscious uncoupling?

This influence will impact us in different ways depending on where Libra is in your chart. If Libra is in the first house or your Sun is in Libra, this is your once every 12 years opportunity to improve the relationship with yourself, to put yourself first, to reboot whatever needs to be re-booted…it’s your year for the ultimate #selfie. If it’s your 2nd house, it could be your relationship with money, or your personal resources that have the opportunity to grow.

If it’s the 7th, it’s your relationships; and the 5th? That’s about fun, creativity, love, and babies: your babies, other people’s babies, creative babies, business babies. It’s about having faith and taking a leap (although not unnecessary risks…please, people, no unnecessary risks) even though the outcome is absolutely uncertain. If it’s the 10th get ready for a busy busy year; and the 4th? Have you run out of space, grown too big for your environment; or does your home-life offer no room for your personal growth? Get the idea?

If I haven’t mentioned the house that your Jupiter is transiting, don’t worry- we’ll get to it- all going well- by the end of the week.

Let Love Be Your Energy… Mars in Libra

shutterstock_117930757

Mars is the planet of desire, the planet of action. Mars is energy and drive, the urge to push to achieve what it is that you want. Exciting and inspirational, Mars is all about physical action and forward motion.

Yet in Libra, Mars is in the sign of his detriment. Traditionally speaking, this is Not A Good Thing. Unless you are looking at Mars in a horary chart, this really just means that Mars is unable to work in his normal physical just flipping do it way. It’s a little like finding yourself somewhere completely unfamiliar with completely the wrong wardrobe, no local phrasebook and rupiah when you need euros. You need to find another way to get what you need.

Where Mars pursues the achievement of a desired outcome, Libra is more interested in the process of relating. Where Mars inspires through (sometimes) excessive energy, Libra detaches in order to logically and objectively observe situations, weighing up all possibilities carefully. Where Mars represents male energy, Venus rules Libra and represents feminine grace, social skills and refined beauty.

In Libra, Mars’ normally sure action is indecisive and directed towards the process of relating. In Libra he gets what he wants by being charming, using diplomacy and finding the compromise points in all situations. He achieves his goals by using his head and his connections, not his brawn. He searches for peace, harmony, beauty and balance. Feel the serenity.

In doing so, he can be frustrated by indecisiveness as he weighs up all viewpoints, options and perspectives. Or should I say that others are frustrated by his indecisiveness?

In Libra, he asserts himself with grace and through his relationships. In Libra he pursues balance, fairness and beauty. This is Mars in touch with his feminine side, so to speak. This is Mars dressed to have a party, this is Mars with his fashionably stylish flirty pants on.

Mars in Libra takes on a refinement that he doesn’t have in other signs. In Libra, sex is given a romantic, almost old fashioned and polite flavour. It isn’t so much about the earthy sensuality of Virgo or the intense merging of Scorpio, just something different. Not better, not worse, just different. It’s about the partnership, the relationship.

Mars in a woman’s chart gives an indication as to what she finds attractive and desirable in a partner. Mars in Libra is drawn to Libran tendencies- someone smooth, urbane, charming, well-balanced, well dressed and equable. He may have personal planets in Libra, he may have personal planets in the 7th house, he may have Mars conjunct Venus and he may be reluctant to run headfirst into conflict. He will be fun to be around, be interested in equality and justice and will want to stand beside you.

So, have a look at your chart- wherever Libra is will be the area of life being stimulated by Mars at the moment. For me it’s 8th house stuff- life, death, taxes, other peoples money and uncontrollables. Ugh.
