Author, Baker, Sunrise Chaser
Hi, I’m Jo. We haven’t met, so here’s a bit about me…
I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia with my husband and a cocker spaniel who takes her role as resident flop-dog and guardian of my office very seriously.
Possibly the most Piscean person you’ll ever meet, I’m an unapologetic daydreamer, eternal optimist, and confirmed morning person, and juggle a day job in the financial sector with writing contemporary romance, women’s fiction, cosy crime, and what I like to call foodie-lit. I also occasionally write about astrology – which is probably what you’re here for.
When I’m writing or day jobbing, I love baking, reading, long walks along the beach, posting way too many photos of sunrises on Instagram, and dreaming of the next destination and the next story.
My life goals (apart from being a world-famous author) are to be an extra on Midsomer Murders and to cook my way through Nigella’s books.
Jo Tracey Astrology
I used to write a lot about astrology but haven’t done so for years.
I’m not sure why I stopped writing about astrology when it had been such a big part of my life for so long. On the surface my reasons were simple – my day job was busy (and getting busier) and I’d also taken on a heavy-duty volunteer role as president of Romance Writers of Australia.
Mostly though it was because I wanted to concentrate more on writing fiction than astrology – I had books to write and books to sell and my dream was to make a living as an author. I couldn’t afford to do both – in terms of time and financial resources. Something had to go.
That’s what I told myself anyway. The real reason – the truth of the matter – was that I’d lost my “why”.
I began this blog as Uranus was traveling through my first house and conjunct my Ascendant and the Sun. My world was changing and there was, I’d decided, someone under the layers of expectation who I quite wanted to meet. I saw myself as a fixer-upper, a renovator’s delight and I was going to use astrology to DIY my life.
Over the years things changed ever so subtly. Rather than writing to please myself, I began writing to an audience, to teach others how to do the same – DIY their life. At the height (in 2017 and 2018) over 400,000 people a year ducked in to read what I had to say. And I was grateful for it, but writing the blog became a duty, yet another commitment I had in a life that seemed to be full of commitments with no return.
I’d also taken on some freelance writing commitments (there’s that word again) and in writing in a voice other than my own to an audience that wasn’t mine, I became as stressed out as I was in my day job. In writing for everyone else, I’d lost why I began writing astrology in the first place. So, I stopped. Completely.
But now I’m back and so is my original why – looking at how the planets and lunations affect me when and if I feel like writing. I won’t be doing readings and I won’t be looking for freelance work. That’s not to say that I won’t be self-publishing any of my rambles in the future – because I might. I do, after all, need to make a living, and maintaining a website is expensive. Besides, I reserve the right to change my mind.
In beginning again, though, I felt as though I needed to completely begin again – and take the opportunity to differentiate the Jo Tracey who writes astrology from Joanne Tracey who writes fiction – and so Astrojo was born.
My brand of astrology…
Astrology isn’t some magic wand that will magically spirit all your problems away, land you the partner of your dreams, the ideal job, and an overflowing bank account. Nor does it provide a set of excuses as to why you haven’t made that first million at 30 and why you still need to lose 20kgs (or is that just me?). What it does do is give you tools – tools that will help you understand your motivations, your needs, and your energies. You choose what you do with that knowledge.
Do It Yourself
As much as I’m thrilled that you’re here, I write astrology for me, in my voice, to help me maximise my own potential – there’s very little I like more than a good possibility.
I believe that astrology should be accessible to everybody and relevant to everyday life, so I’m here to take the mystery and the woo woo out, and break complex concepts down into something much simpler to understand.
My brand of astrology is DIY astrology- the type that will help you to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Or not. That’s up to you. Think of it like a home renovation, but it’s your life – and we use the stars. It’s all about realising and uncovering the potential within – or doing the self-improvement equivalent of slapping on a coat of paint or buying some new cushions and throw rugs.
What I’m not here to do is take the work out of it for you. I’ll give you the tools and some guidance to help you learn it yourself – not from a textbook, but from the heart. I’ll also give you some astro weather forecasts (from time to time) to help you improve your good day ratio. It’s up to you what you do with that. Just remember – the planets and the stars don’t make things happen, but they provide an environment against which life plays out. It’s up to you whether you take an umbrella to protect yourself from the storm or hold your face to the rain and dry out later. Your stars. Your life. Your call.
