Willoughby and Marianne

There’s a scene in Emma Thompsons’ Sense and Sensibility where Willoughby (played by Greg Wise) and Marianne (Kate Winslet) are swapping Shakespeare sonnets- as you do when a supremely hot man has just rescued from a watery fall down a hill by throwing you on the back of his mighty steed.

Marianne’s favourite is 116:

Love is not love

Which alters when it alteration finds,

Or bends with the remover to remove:

O no! it is an ever-fixed mark

That looks on tempests and is never shaken

It turns out (unsurprisingly) to be Willoughby’s favourite too. At this point we know three things:

• Marianne is going to fall hard for Willoughby- and seriously, who wouldn’t?
• Willoughby is going to break her heart, but hell yeah she’s going there anyway.
• Willoughby will forever more be Marianne’s Mr Big- and doesn’t every girl need the memory of a Mr Big before settling for someone who deserves our love?

I was reminded of this on reading a tweet posted by astrologer Adam Smith last night- it is indeed the perfect quote to describe the Venus/Saturn trine. A love that is strong and true. Contentment.

It’s also very much Mercury in Leo.

Leo rules the heart, so Mercury in Leo can be quite simply thinking from the heart or with the heart…communicating with heart.

This concept is important at tomorrows Full Moon as Mercury is still within shouting distance of the Sun, trine Uranus (the ruler of this Full Moon) and within a couple of days away from stationing direct.

Uranus forms a link between the Sun and the Moon (is sextile the Moon and trine the Sun), as does Jupiter (trine the Moon and sextile the Sun). If ever there was a time to honour your individuality, do something out of the ordinary and jump outside your comfort zone, this is it. Uranus and Jupiter add a flash of lightning, the spark of regeneration.

The Leo/Aquarius axis is the one that emphasises creativity and community, self expression and the voice of many. Leo is about honouring yourself, while Aquarius is adept at detaching from his own needs in favour of altruism. Leo is the heart and Aquarius, an Air sign, is the mind. Sensibility and sense.

Anyone who has undertaken something creative knows and understands this dichotomy. Creativity comes from the heart- it is within us. It is 5^th house in nature- we give birth to it, we play with it, we taken risks with it. And the biggest risk we take is pushing our creation out into the world, into the community. We push it into the realm of the 11^th house.

At this Full Moon we have the opportunity to create our own future. Jupiter asks us to think big. Uranus asks us to think differently and look ahead. Mercury asks us to think with our heart- even if what is in front of us is a Willoughby (or the equivalent) that we need to take a risk on.

The Full Moon falls at around 10 Aquarius at 1.27pm (Sydney time) on 2 August, 2012. That is:
