So I’m back on the submission treadmill.
Each submission to a publisher requires yet another query letter, another bio and another synopsis.
Some publishers like to see one chapter, others want to see 3 chapters, while yet another will want 10,000 words. Today’s submission was for the first 50 pages.
Each publisher will want it in a slightly different format, with different header and footer information, saved under particular names and with different spacing, fonts or margin sizes.
Then we come to the synopsis. Some want 100 words, some 200 words, some 300 words. Todays was no more than 2 A4 pages double spaced in size 12 times new roman with first line para inserts at 0.63 and 2.5 margins throughout.
Some writers write to a synopsis. I don’t. I’m a pantser, not a plotter- often I don’t know what’s going to happen until it actually does. A synopsis for me is something that happens right at the end when I attempt to condense 85000 words into 100…or 200…or 300…or… you get the idea.
As for the bio, most publishers want just a paragraph or two tucked into a query letter of no more than one A4 page (double spaced, blah blah blah blah). Today’s asked for more. They wanted to know about my work history, my writing history, why I write, what motivates me to write, what my writing ambitions are. And they want it all in no more than 2 A4 pages double spaced in size 12 times new roman with first line para inserts at 0.63 and 2.5 margins throughout. Oh and they wanted it with colour- not in colour as in coloured font, but, you know, colour.
Today was a good day to do it. With Venus and Mercury both about as close to Jupiter as all three will be for many years (yes, I could look it up, but quite frankly I can’t be faffed), today was a day to get words out there. As this point (23 Gemini) is square my Pisces planets, I figured it was a great opportunity (a Jupiter word) to put together something about myself. It was also a challenge.
Mercury is conjunct Jupiter now and Venus will be tomorrow. While the three of them won’t exactly conjunct all at the same time, there will be only a degree or so in it.
Of itself this aspect isn’t going to change your life, but it might bring up some opportunity or contact or network or piece of information that if you see it, reach out to it, and grab it, might just be amazing. I’ll leave that one with you.
Oh, and keep your fingers crossed for me…
