Where in the chart? DIY Aries

The star sign Aries written on a blackboard.

A DIY post…

I mentioned in my Aries post the other day, how I have a not so secret weakness for the sign of Aries. Then someone said to me something like: I can’t stand Aries- they’re so competitive and headstrong. It’s always all about them.

Hmmmm. Somehow I suspect there’s a little history behind that comment.

What I didn’t say, is that regardless of the sign that our Sun is in, we all have Aries somewhere in our charts. There is some part of life that we deal with in an Aries sort of way- rush headfirst into. Like Aries or loathe it, in that part of your life, it’s best if you learn to know it.

In my case, as a Pisces Rising, Aries rules my 2nd house (don’t know what houses are? Check out this post or the basics page). I’m impulsive when it comes to shopping, and will often spend first and think later- I’m not really very practical when it comes to money. I’m more than capable of earning my own money, my own way, and can even be a little competitive regarding it.

But what about you? Where is Aries in your chart? It’s this part of life that will be energised while the Sun is in Aries.

If you know your birth time, you can cast your own chart- the instructions are here.

Now look for this symbol- the one the little man below is holding up. It looks a little like a ram’s horn.

If you don’t know your birth time, we can use your solar chart. In this we assume that your Sun sign is on the Ascendant, the left hand point of the chart. From here they run anti-clockwise with the 4th at the bottom of the chart, the 7th ( or DC, descendant) on the right-hand side of the chart, and the Midheaven (or 10th, MC) at the top.

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries this will be your first house.

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Taurus- this will be in your 12th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini- this will be in your 11th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer- this will be in your 10th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo- this will be in your 9th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo- this will be in your 8th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Libra- this will be in your 7th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio- this will be in your 6th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius- this will be in your 5th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn- this will be in your 4th house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius- this will be in your 3rd house

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces- this will be in your 2nd house

What does this mean?

We’ll run through the houses next time.

Taking it one step further

Mars, as the ruler of Aries, is the planet that rules that part of life for you.

Keeping it simple, when Mars goes retrograde, the part of life it rules for you- that house that has Aries on the cusp- will slow down, be a tad frustrated, require review.

Mars, as the ruler of Aries, is therefore the planet that rules my 2nd house. When I’m looking at what is happening with my money, my possessions, the things that are important to me, I look to Mars. When Mars is retrograde, I tend to have more money going out than coming in.

Taking it even further

Look at your chart to see what condition Mars is in in your chart. If you’re not sure what this means (and would like to know) check out this post. Regardless of the house Mars falls in, the condition or dignity of Mars will tell you a lot about how easy or difficult you find that part of life ruled by Aries.

Again, using mine as an example, Mars in my chart is in Scorpio in the 8th house. It’s almost as strong as it can be- except that it’s also retrograde natally. While I control our money and have been relatively fortunate in making it, I do tend to go backwards before I go forwards. In a way this is a good thing as it helps curb my impulsiveness.

Over to you!
