Virgo New Moon…and Solar Eclipse

Sun and moon best friends baby cartoon characters

We’ve been contemplating down-sizing for a little while now. Hubby has been absolutely ready, but me not so much. It’s the first time in our 27 years together that he’s been further along the change curve from me.

I’ve caught up with him and now it’s really not so much a matter of “if” so much as “when”.

The thing is, we have around six months of work to be done before we can list this house. At least. We’ve been here since 1999, so there’s a lot of stuff that has accumulated during that time. That means an awful lot of clutter that needs to be removed.

There are also little bits and pieces that we’ve lived with that would need to be fixed for sale, and the garden needs a good clean-out and re-plant. As I said- at least six months worth of work.

The layers in the rooms have somehow built up without me being aware of it. It’s the same with your body- the layers build up until it’s like they have been there all the time. You’re underneath somewhere…but where?

At the Virgo New Moon we have the opportunity to do a little house cleaning, a little sprucing up of habits. It might be an efficiency wake-up call, a gentle dust down, or you could be needing the full on premium service overhaul. That’s your call.

Where 9 Virgo 21’ falls in your chart is the area of life requiring a little Virgo attention to detail. In my case it’s my 6th house, so this is about health, and the routine and tasks of daily life.

Doing it for yourself…

If you’ve been reading along, you should know how to find where the New Moon is happening in your chart. If you’re new to this site (welcome), duck across and check out this post before you go any further.

The position you’re looking for is 9 Virgo 21’…or thereabouts.

Now, let’s set our intentions. Think about the area of life you’re focusing on and set small achievable targets. Make sure that you do at least one thing towards this goal this month. If you’re unsure where to start, check out this post. Saturn squares this point, so whatever intentions you set, make sure they are real, timely and be prepared to work hard to overcome any obstacles. This New Moon is also a solar eclipse, so fee free to amp up your intentions.

  • How do the concerns of this house make you feel?
  • How would you like to feel about them?
  • What positive steps can you take over the next four weeks to minimise the gap between how you feel about this are and how you’d like to feel?

*****Write it down!!!!!!!!!!******

As for me? I pulled my Moonshadow report out this morning to see what it had to say (if you want one for your chart, follow the links on the website). I’ve told you about these before. Written by April Elliott Kent, they are a fabulous resource for tracking the impact of eclipses on your chart.

This eclipse is the first in a series that will fall across the 6th and 12th house for me. Below is an extract from my report:

What was the state of your health in prior years of this cycle? Were you tired, burned out?…This year, while eclipses are in your sixth house, you are again compelled to heed your body’s messages. This is one of the best cycles for instituting positive changes in the way you treat your body.

Are you happy with the way you’re spending your days? Do you greet each morning with a sense of purpose and at least some enthusiasm for the tasks you face? If not, what can you do this year to bring your daily work more in line with your spiritual impulses, with your life’s larger mission?

As April points out, the challenge of these eclipses is to balance spiritual purpose and dreams with a healthy approach to the minutia of daily life.

This eclipse for me falls opposite natal Mercury. According to my Moonshadow report, eclipses in aspect to Mercury represent a crisis of identity:

Eclipses in aspect to natal Mercury symbolize a time when you are “between identities.” Often, you’ve taken on a new title… but don’t know how to reconcile this title with your own ideas about who you are. Or, you may have relinquished an old identity … leaving you unsure about what to call yourself. …. This is a time to tell yourself new stories about what you want to be and how you’ve gotten to the place where you are. It is a cycle for mastering new skills and language for coping with your new path…

Mercury in my chart rules my 7th and 4th houses…let’s just say I have an idea where this cycle is going to be influencing me over the next couple of years. How it pans out? Well, that’s another thing entirely. If this year has so far taught me anything, it’s to expect the unexpected, roll with it, and actively look and notice the moments of joy along the way- even if they do appear fleeting.
