Tuesday Toolbox: Lesson 3

So anyways, how did you go with last weeks mini lesson?

Week before last, before our mini diversion, we ended up with our chart divided neatly into 4 quarters- each containing 3 houses.

We’d even given the main dividing lines a fancy pants title: The Cross Of Matter. It’s this concept that will be the focus of todays mini lesson.

As an astrologer, most of the questions I’m asked relate to cross of matter issues:

Life, Love, Home, Work.

Actually, if truth be known, it’s mostly love and work…ok, it’s mostly love…but you get the idea. I’m taking a guess most other astrologers would say the same thing.

It makes sense- how you feel about yourself impacts how you feel about your relationships, your family and your work…whatever crap is going on at work impacts your home-life, your relationships and your health, vitality and well-being.

Each impacts the other.

Pull out the chart you’ve been working on over the last couple of weeks. Notice the cross that runs from the 1st house to the 7th, the 4th to the 10th.

We call these houses angular houses.

Angular houses are associated with action and initiation. Planets placed in these houses are generally (all other things being equal) well placed and motivated to take action. Don’t worry too much about this business of “motivation” now.

Being houses of action, they are associated with cardinal signs, ie Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn…more on this in a couple of weeks.

Each point, or angle on the chart aligns to the most basic and critical parts of life:

House 1– we also call the cusp of this house the Ascendant or ASC. The sign on the cusp of this house is known as your Rising Sign. It’s this sign that was rising above the horizon at the minute you were born.

The 1st house is associated with your health and vitality, how you look, how you behave, the image or mask that you show to the world.

House 4- The cusp of this house is also known as the Immum Coeli or IC.

The 4th house is associated with your roots, your family, your history, your home, your father (although some astrologers argue this to be the dominant parent), your private life, buried things- emotions or treasure.

House 7-The cusp of this house is also known as the Descendant or DC.

The 7th house is associated with relationships. It’s life and business partners, and it’s also known (or declared) enemies (eg the opposing party in love, war or lawsuits).

House 10- The cusp of this house is known as the Midheaven, Medium Coeli or MC.

The 10th house is your career, your boss, your mother. It’s also your public reputation and social status- it’s how you’re seen by the world.

Do It Yourself

Do you have any planets in angular houses? Don’t worry too much about what the planets mean, but just take note of them at this stage. These are the planets whose energy you’ll need to harness when you want to take action or initiate change.
