Mars in Capricorn: Taking Care of Business

Before I started writing this post, I did what I always do whenever a planet changes signs: I go looking for what I’ve written before. After all, why re-invent the wheel if it’s still doing what it should be doing.

You know what I found? Nothing…well, next to nothing. How have I never written anything about Mars in Capricorn?

So, just as I did the other day with my Libra post, I’ve turned to the small screen- and to the man who represents Mars in Capricorn better than I could ever explain.

Allow me to introduce you to Harvey Specter from the TV show Suits.

A persona disclaimer from me at this point: as attractive as he is, Harvey leaves me cold. Anyways, like him or loathe him (and plenty of women I know seem to love him), Harvey Specter is a corporate warrior. Harvey treats the world of business as if it’s a battlefield. Every deal, every negotiation is a war to be won. His isn’t a flashy, spangly gold-plated armour, it’s under-stated and quietly, expensively, luxurious- only the best brands will do for Harvey. You don’t need to see the logo to know that the suit he’s wearing cost $3000, and the shoes the same.

Harvey knows what he wants, and he knows that he’s going to need to work- and compete- in order to get it. That’s ok- Harvey knows that any luck he has he’s made himself. He also knows that the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary. (In case you’re wondering, there are entire sites devoted to Harvey quote memes.)

Harvey is the consummate professional. He’s efficient, smart and knows where to invest his resources where they will be of most use. He’s a climber, and isn’t afraid to stamp on the hands of those trying to climb behind him- if they get too close. Harvey knows that dreaming isn’t enough- if you want to make something happen, you have to make it happen.

Saturn ruled Capricorn is cautious and disciplined, and Mars is how you assert yourself. Put this together and you have someone who can control his sexual energy. You also have someone who could use this to get what he wants. Harvey knows this.

Mars in a man’s chart also tells us how he might go about selling himself- or getting who and what he wants. Harvey, when he wants a woman, sells himself to her in terms of what he can provide her materially. Underneath though, we know that what’s really turning her on is all of that strong, and oh so earthy, sexual energy. Yes, I’ve watched a lot of episodes of Suits.

When it comes to women, Harvey plays it cool. He’s a tad detached and very inscrutable. Harvey doesn’t like to be rejected, and has been known to play it a teeny bit safe and not put himself out there with a woman until he’s pretty sure he won’t be rejected. Besides, who could possibly reject Harvey Specter. Harvey also likes to be respected for his experience- and he has plenty of that. Prowess and hard-won expertise such as his requires praise. Although he refuses to let emotions get in the way at work or in the way of a deal, they’re simmering away underneath. Simmering, I say. Remember those episodes where we saw Harvey lose a girlfriend because of a deal? It was a reminder to him that there needs to be that line between business and love.

Harvey Specter aside, what else can I say about Mars in Capricorn? Just that Mars is super-strong here. Remembering back to Toolbox no whatever about dignities, Mars is in the sign of his exaltation in Capricorn. Not just does he feel at home here, but he’s a favoured visitor- one who’s had the 1000 count sheets put on the bed and the special visitor biscuits brought out for.

We’ve talked a lot about Harvey Specter and men with Mars in Capricorn, but what about if you’re a woman with Mars in Capricorn? Well, you’ll probably have that same strong determination, that same ambition and earthy sexuality; and you’ll probably be attracted to men who are perhaps a little like Harvey. He might have the Sun, Moon or personal planets in Capricorn, or perhaps Mars conjunct, in close aspect to Saturn, or in the 10th house.

Doing it for yourself…

We all have Capricorn somewhere in our chart, and it’s this part of life that’s about to get an energy hit from Mars.

Pull your chart out and look for the symbol of Capricorn. It’s like a v with a flourish.

If you don’t have your chart, read this post on how to get one.

If you don’t know what the houses mean, check out series 1 of the Toolbox or this post.

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide below.

Mars for me will transit from the 10th to the 11th house. The 11th is about goals, hopes, dreams, friends, networks, the reward from the work we do. While Mars is in this part of the chart and conjunct Pluto I’ll be releasing my new novel Wish You Were Here. I’m timing it to coincide with when the Sun and Mercury are conjunct my natal Mars in Scorpio. This book is getting the biggest burst of Martian energy that I can give it!

Over to you…

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, Mars will be transiting your 1st house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius Mars will be transiting your 12th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces, Mars will be transiting your 11th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries, Mars will be transiting your 10th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Taurus, Mars will be transiting your 9th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini Mars will be transiting your 8th house.
  • If your Sun of Ascendant is in Cancer Mars will be transiting your 7th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo, Mars will be transiting your 6th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo, Mars will be transiting your 5th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Libra, Mars will be transiting your 4th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio, Mars will be transiting your 3rd house.

If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, Mars will be transiting your 2nd house.
