Leo Full Moon and eclipse

Tomorrow I’m scheduled to start my new novel. It has a title – Christmas at Curlew Cottage – and it has some characters who have a back story. It also has an opening premise. What happens next is anyone’s guess – I certainly won’t know until I actually write it.

This is the most exciting part of the process – to take an idea and the Scrivener equivalent of a blank page and watch as a story emerges. It’s the perfect merging of creativity and technology.

On the other hand, the scariest part of the process is hitting that publish button on Amazon. Why? Because it’s representative of me. I gave birth to each of the characters. I’ve taken their joy and their pain. I nurtured the story and now I’m sending it out into the world. I’m standing there saying ‘this is my book and this is who I am and please like me.’ It’s an enormous risk.

I should have started this book two weeks ago but I’ve been more creative with my excuses then with actually creating. I’ve redesigned this blog, I’ve started a new bloggy series on my personal blog, I’ve fallen down the Instagram rabbithole over and over and over.

It’s true, modern life provides so many potential distractions from creativity – at the same time as technology provides us with new ways and means of being creative.

If I’m being really honest with myself though, the reason I haven’t started yet is because I’m scared. I was so proud of Happy Ever After, that I’m terrified that it’s both the best story I can ever write and that the readers who loved it will be disappointed by anything that comes after.

Pride and fear – two words associated with Leo. Here’s some more: creativity, self-expression, ego and emotional security. Yes, all the things that I’ve been feeling.

Leo is also aligned with the 5th house: with play, creativity, self-expression and the inner child. In this whirl of modern living, it is that inner child which is forgotten – if indeed he/she ever really existed.

Think about this honestly: when was the last time that you let yourself have fun – simply because you really wanted to? Guilt-free, fuss-free, judgement free, responsibility-free fun?

What about this one too – when was the last time you picked up your hobby – and by hobby, I mean something that allows you to creatively express yourself. We all have a 5th house, and we all have something that is creative if we could only give ourselves permission to indulge in it. And please don’t tell me that you’re not creative – creativity is more than art or writing or any of the things that we were taught at school that it was. Speaking of school – that was probably when you decided that you weren’t creative…other kids and thoughtless teachers can be so cruel.

Anyways, that’s what this Full Moon is about – balancing our own creative need for self-expression and play against the fear that we’re not good enough, and against the reality of the big, wide world.

The thing is none of us can exist in isolation. Self-expression requires an audience of some description. Ambitions for personal glory must be balanced against the responsibilities we have to society. What can we give back? What should we give back? At what point do we draw the line between what we give and what we receive? What we can do ourselves and what we need to risk in order to ask for help or collaboration, friendship or love.

Wherever 0 Leo 51’ and 0 Aquarius 51’ lies in your chart are where you need to look at the balance between these two areas of life.

As with all things, this is easier said than done. Both Aquarius and Leo are fixed signs. The ego is fixed and ideas are fixed. The balance point is somewhere in between – in a place of self-love and acceptance, perhaps.

But wait, there’s more…

This Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse, so the themes will be amplified. As I’ve mentioned in my recent eclipse article – you can check it out here – each eclipse falls into a “family” of sorts. The theme of this one, as written by Bernadette Brady in The Eagle and The Lark is:

“This eclipse is concerned with unusual groups and the individual’s involvement with those groups…(emphasis is on a group whose concerns are with healing, the arts, humanity)…The individual will feel that, through involvement with such a group, he or she will gain a great deal.”

In my chart…

This eclipse falls exactly trine my natal Saturn. I have a heavy Saturn themed year in 2019, so this doesn’t surprise me. I suspect that this for me will be about facing up to consequences and laying foundations. Interestingly the one quote that keeps ringing in my ear this year is one from Nigella Lawson. She said something like: Through competence comes confidence – and creativity comes with confidence. A Capricorn principle, but one that is apt for this eclipse aspecting my Saturn I think.

Over to you…
