Jupiter in Scorpio

After gym today I dropped in at the travel agent for a brochure on Bali. We’re contemplating another trip there mid next year – during the long break between university semesters.

That’s not the only trip I’m planning next year. We’re off on a road trip this weekend to explore a little more of this fabulously huge state we now live in and New Year will be spent at Fraser Island a few hours up the road – another place we’ve always promised ourselves that we’d explore.

In April I’m off to northern France for 3 weeks to do a road trip through Belgium and into the Netherlands before winding up back in Paris. In between all of this is the possibility of another potential short stay in Asia. Travel wise, it’s a busy 12 months ahead.

To add to all of this, my next novel will be out soon and I’m looking at fast tracking another 2 more before this time next year. I’ve just booked to attend a writer’s workshop in November, and last night I attended a talk by Reef Check Australia to raise awareness about the health of the Queensland reefs in general and the Sunshine Coast in particular. It’s something I’m deeply interested in and want to learn more about.

Yes folks, Jupiter in Scorpio will be transiting my 9th house.

When Jupiter was in Libra and transiting my 8th house the themes were all about shared assets, wealth, investments.

Due to a perfect storm, the financial future we’d envisaged was lost – essentially taken away from us. Remember in yesterday’s post I mentioned that very often Jupiter takes away in order to clear space. This led to us making some difficult decisions to protect what we we’d worked so hard to establish. It wasn’t just the assets and investments of the relationship that were considered at this time, it was also the values we held jointly – what was really important to us? What do we want our future, our retirement (8th house) to look like? Where did we need to make compromises to ensure both of our value needs were met? We had to work together (Libra) and venture beyond the boundary of our experience (Jupiter) together in order to come out the other side. We had to consider actions in relation to 8th house matters that we wouldn’t normally contemplate. We knew that we’d done the work to prepare in case this day ever came and had to have faith in the outcome.

It’s turned out well. In fact, we’ve said – on more than one occasion over the last couple of months – that the perfect storm that was 2016 was possibly one of the best things that could have happened to us…at that time, anyway.

The experience of Jupiter in Scorpio will be very different – for all of us – as experiences in Scorpio tend to be.

Jupiter is about expansion and learning through experience. Jupiter is also associated with abundance, travel, publication, broadcasting, teaching, higher learning and vocational learning, spirituality, gurus…I could go on.

Scorpio is about intensity, hunger, and those deep emotional almost soulful connections. When a planet is in Scorpio there’s no hiding and things can’t be taken at surface value. When a planet is in Scorpio things that relate to that part of life have a habit of being exposed.

If we put this together, we’re looking at experience, but on a deeper level.

Scorpio can also be about fear and holding onto something that needs to be let go of. For this reason, some of us may find the Jupiter in Scorpio transit a tad harder than it was in Libra. It could also mean that unless you’re prepared to face that which you’re afraid of more of you end this transit without having taken advantage of the opportunities Jupiter has to offer.

One last point – I mentioned hunger before… As anyone on a diet knows, cravings can be strong – and can, if not managed, lead to binges before you know it. Your hunger doesn’t necessarily need to be for food, but through fear, that’s exactly how you might end up trying to assuage it. After all, Jupiter wants to expand you in some way – just take care that it’s not your physical body being expanded.

Doing it for yourself…

Wherever Jupiter is transiting in your chart is where you might have been under-estimating yourself, asking for too little, or holding back due to a lack of faith:

  • If Jupiter is transiting your 1st house, you’ve been underestimating who you are capable of being.
  • If he is running through the 7th, look at your relationships – is your relationship giving you what you need or are you giving too much to it?
  • In the 10th – are you valuing your experience enough or simply accepting a more junior role than what you are capable of?

This time round, Jupiter’s intentions have been given a Scorpio focus and intensity. You’ll be going much deeper in this part of life than you have before – well not since Jupiter last passed through here anyway.

So when you’re looking for the possible manifestations of a Jupiter transit, look beyond the surface meaning.

As an example, if, like me, Jupiter is transiting your 9th house and you’re travelling, to get the most from the experience – to learn the most from the experience – you need to really get under the skin of a place. To connect with the culture, the locals, perhaps explore their religion or spirituality, and really immerse yourself.

If you’re studying or learning, ensure it’s a subject that speaks to your soul, something that touches you at a level that strikes a chord within you. If it’s a cause you’re becoming involved with, it needs to be one that you’re totally passionate about. Get the idea?

So, what might Jupiter mean for you?

First you need to find which part of your life Jupiter is transiting.

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide:

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio, Jupiter will be in your 1st house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, Jupiter will be in your 12th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, Jupiter will be in your 11th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius, Jupiter will be in your 10th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces, Jupiter will be in your 9th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries, Jupiter will be in your 8th house.
  • If your Sun of Ascendant is in Taurus, Jupiter will be in your 7th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini, Jupiter will be in your 6th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer, Jupiter will be in your 5th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo, Jupiter will be in your 4th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo, Jupiter will be in your 3rd house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Libra Jupiter will be in your 2nd house.

To help you out, I wrote a series of posts a number of years ago that might give you some ideas. You’ll find them on the Jupiter page. I’ve re-jigged these to go into the Jupiter book that I’ll have out soon.

Think also on what happened last time Jupiter was in Scorpio: 27 October 2005 – 25 November 2006. Are there any similar themes being raised?

I’ll leave that one with you…

  1. Hi Jo!

Thank you very much for your readable and well written texts about “Jupiter in Scorpio” and “What I know about Jupiter”. Jupiter will be in my 10th House… and I know exactly what you mean when you write “In the 10th – are you valuing your experience enough or simply accepting a more junior role than what you are capable of?”. I will really think about it!

I will also do some travelling. Tomorrow morning we take off for the western USA and I will behave as if Jupiter is in my 9th House too – really get under the skin of the places we visit!

    Anna Karin
