A DIY transit post…Warning- it’s long…
So anyways, for better or for worse, most of us are attached to the way things are.
It’s why we stay in jobs and relationships that are so long past their use by date that if they were a vegetable they would have festered into a manky science experiment mess at the bottom of the crisper.
Think for a minute what it feels like to be stuck- in a bad job, a bad relationship, tied for whatever reason to the past. You know it, you feel it, but you do nothing about it.
You get to the stage where the misery becomes you…or you become the misery. Your health might suffer, you might forget what it feels like to feel healthy. You might forget what it feels like to feel happy, to laugh, to feel challenged, to feel passionate, to feel alive.
Predictability is fine… to a point…but without change, without challenge, there can’t be growth. And if there isn’t growth, you can’t be completely yourself, you can’t be completely authentic- which is after all, what Uranus wants you to do.
It’s fear and insecurity that keeps you in the status quo- most of us need some sort of “encouragement” to confront life in all of its unpredictable, frightening, and technicolour glory.
And that’s where Uranus transits come in. The nature of Uranus is to electrify, to awake, to surprise. Uranus is not malefic, not usually. It’s the way in which you approach the change and accept his urging that can make it appear so.
Uranus met up with Venus in my chart last week. It’s one of those conjunctions that will happen only once in my life, so I was expecting…something… The thing with Uranian transits- and yes, I had a lot of experience with them when Uranus was in Pisces- is that you expect one thing and experience another.
So what could happen when Uranus makes this once in a lifetime conjunction with Venus?
Let’s go to the textbooks. According to Robert Hand’s Planets in Transit:
The effects of this transit are often quite spectacular…you are likely to seek new freedom and excitement through your relationships.
Could this mean a new relationship? Perhaps. Could it mean ending an old relationship? Perhaps- but this is a tad extreme. Could it mean that you might find new ways of bringing excitement into an existing, stable relationship? A little spontaneity? Perhaps? New things to do together? Absolutely…if you’re open to that.
Could it mean a new and exciting relationship that’s different from anything you’ve ever felt before or been through before and been with before? Possibly- if you’re in the market for that sort of thing.
Could it mean it will last forever and ever? Maybe, maybe not- perhaps that sort of relationship is not designed to last forever and ever. Besides, the thing about Uranus is its unpredictability.
What else could happen?
Given that Venus is often associated with art, Venus-Uranus conjunctions are also associated with ideas- possibly off the wall ideas- and enhanced creativity…a little like my idea to bring interest back to airline safety briefings by making them more interactive. No?
Then there’s your personal style and identity- you could find yourself mixing that up a little.
Don’t forget that Venus is also about your personal resources- not just your money and things, but how you replenish your energy levels, keep calm, de-stress and carry on. A conjunction with Uranus could give you new ways of doing this.
So, if that’s what the textbooks say, is that what will happen with your transit? Perhaps. (Yes, I’m using that word a lot…)
The thing is, your transit will be personal to you.
Doing it for yourself…
Ok, so the textbooks will give you an idea about what could happen, but it doesn’t tell you what will happen- not exactly. Your experience of any transit will be personal to you…so let’s break this down. The theory is much the same as that we use for New and Full Moons.
- Where on the chart?
Pull out your chart. If you don’t have one, this post will help you generate one. If you’re still not sure, this post should have the answers.
The symbol for Venus is
And the symbol for Uranus is
- What part of life?
The house that Uranus is in is the part of your life where:
- you should be most prepared to function possibly without approval,
- you must learn to follow your own path, beat your own drum and even break a few rules
- You will be bombarded with advice that probably won’t be appropriate to breaking rules and beating drums
- You will challenge authority
- You are most likely to offend
The house that Venus is in will be the part of your life where:
- You look to replenish yourself
- Where you find balance and beauty
It’s these houses where the transit will start to happen.
- What part of life is being transited?
Given that we’re talking here about a Uranus- Venus conjunction, the house receiving the transit, is the house that Venus is located in.
This is where the main action will be occurring.
This is the area of life that Uranus is “encouraging” you to be authentic in, to approach in a different, possibly more spontaneous, way. This is where you could be saying ‘well, that was unexpected…’
We’ll be looking a little more closely at this through the Tuesday Toolboxes, but for now:
- If the transit is in the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th, the impact will probably work more obviously and publicly. These houses are associated with action.
- If the transit is in the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th, you might need to look more closely and work a little harder to identify and take advantage of the opportunity being presented to you. These houses are associated with security.
- If the transit is in the 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th, you will require a deeper focus, an adjustment or change, and you might be asked you to think, observe and learn from something or someone.
- What house is ruled by Uranus? What houses are ruled by Venus?
To determine this, you’ll need to find the house that has Aquarius on the cusp. This area of life is ruled by Uranus.
You’ll also need to find the houses with Taurus
and Libra on the cusp.
These areas of life are ruled by Venus.
Don’t forget, depending on the house size, there could be more than one (see Tuesday Toolbox Lesson 1 and 1.1)
These are the areas of life that will be affected by the outcome of the transit.
Putting it all together…
Venus and Uranus don’t have a comfortable relationship natally for me- Uranus is in the 7th house and likes to do the commitment phobic leave me alone I’m lonely thing, while Venus is in the 2nd house in Aries and really wants what she wants when she wants it and not a moment later.
My Uranian story is all about individuality in relationships- space to move, freedom to be myself. The challenge is in connecting, committing and bonding at the same time.
This transit is happening in the 2nd house- money, possessions, value, self esteem, stress levels, recharging. And man, have I been stressed. I’ve mentioned that my blood pressure is high and my heartbeat has been irregular. I have no choice but to find new ways of dealing with the anxiety and replenish my reserves.
The transit will have an outcome in the 12th, the 3rd and the 8th. How I bring myself undone, my methods of self-sabotage, the way I escape, my routines, my neighbours, my debts, the deeper stuff of life.
This transit isn’t over yet- Uranus is still at the degree of my Venus, and will be within 2 degrees on and off into 2017.
What’s happened so far? Hubby and I have travelled again together, largely without plans, and pushed a few boundaries. All good and the source of unexpected fun.
What else? Oh, I’ve started wearing long skirts, vests and flat ankle boots- yep, I’m back in free spirit aging hippie style- at least when I’m away from the partition. In the partition I’m refusing to straighten my hair, or restrain it. Who says that curly haired women can’t get taken seriously in an extreme corporate environment?
We’re also considering future options regarding where we live. The places on our radar are those where we like to escape to. For me that’s an issue, as places and things tend to lose their appeal when the new wears off. Do we sell, do we stay, do we do something in between that? It’s all been prompted by next door putting their property on the market. There could be up to 8 small blocks created from it. We weren’t expecting that, but it’s up to us what we do with that.
If you have Venus in Aries, your Uranus- Venus conjunction could be coming up- or perhaps you’ve already had it? Check out the Uranus page for more information regarding timing and for links to other Uranus transit posts.
And my take-away message? The planets aren’t something we can blame when things don’t turn out the way we hoped… they simply provide the environment- what we do with it, how we respond to it, is up to us.
