The other night we went to a play to learn about electricity. Actually, it was to learn about a guy named Nikola Tesla- the man who worked out how to harness power and electrify society. We went with friends and there was, of course, wine involved.
Put on by Ausgrid (an Aussie energy company), it was aimed mainly at school groups and kids interested in science (our friend is a sparkie by trade & a couple of the kids are deep into science), and talked about the conspiracies surrounding the guy as played out through his inventions.
Born at midnight 10/11 July 1856 in a town that used to be part of the Austrian Empire, but is now somewhere in Croatia, Tesla was responsible for the current system of electrical supply (AC) we use now, as well as the wireless technology used for radio & the like, but died pretty well penniless.
When I looked at his birth chart I was expecting to see a heavy Uranian signature, but instead found a chart of a Cancerian centred around the 4th house. All that did was explain why he spent so much time in his home based lab.
Where am I leading with this? To Uranus of course. Or more specifically, the point that Uranus has stationed at 00Aries38’ and is about to turn direct. On an eclipse. The unpredictable nature of eclipses is, in itself, very Uranian in flavour, and very little is more Uranian than a Uranus station.
This time a couple of years ago I woke up one morning and just knew something really important. Check out my post Voice of the Beehive.
Uranus had just gone direct and the resulting lightning bolt was both exciting & frightening…but I did absolutely nothing about it…then. I held the knowledge tight within me and told no one…well maybe just a little bit to my BFF, but she’s a vault…
This time last year, when Uranus turned direct, it was obvious that whatever it was that was knocking at my brain and made me sit up in bed last year and just know had not gone away. Whatever was bubbling away under the surface was still fizzing through my veins. Again, I did very little about it. And guess what, it’s all still there. This time around, though, there is a trigger point of an eclipse ready to blow whatever it is either wide open or well apart. Given that the partition job is finishing next week, emotions are already running high.
While Uranus was retrograde all of that bubbling, electrical energy was happening within you instead of to you. Eventually it has to explode. Suddenly you see exactly what you need to see.
There is nothing subtle about Uranus. He has neither the time nor the energy to faff around with subtlety and lessons and opportunity. Instead he gets off on giving totally unexpected and utterly unavoidable shocks to get you moving out of your rut and into something that is more authentically you. He pokes and prods at you until you have no choice but to make the changes that are necessary to become yourself. Uranus is uncomfortable and indiscriminate. If work is not right, expect stuff like failed projects, difficult clients, problems with money. Likewise if relationships need changing, problems will arise in this area. Get the idea?
If Uranus passes back across a natal planet or chart point for you during this transit your time is …now! Think about the bid for freedom you may have made when Uranus 1st touched that planet. The retrograde period has given the opportunity for those feelings to be directed inward and observed objectively. What went wrong then? What could you have handled differently?
If a break for freedom is still required or a change absolutely needs to be made, when Uranus goes direct over that planet you will have the opportunity to make the change real… or risk regretting it for ever.
But what will happen? I hear you ask… Who knows. The one thing I do know about Uranus is expect the unexpected.
Where is Uranus in your chart? The cause of the transit can be found where Uranus is natally. The house through which Uranus is transiting is where most of the action is taking place and the house ruled by Aquarius is the area where the transits’ energy will be manifested.
The centre of the transit will come from the house that Uranus is transiting in your chart- this is where you are being pushed into making changes that will ultimately result in a more authentic you- he makes you confront your own individuality. If, like me, this activity is happening in the first house, it will be all about you- how you look, where you work, what you do, who you do it with, where you live and who you do that with. The planets will tell you the nature of that transit. And trust me, resistance is futile. The more you struggle against the Freedom Fighter, the tighter the chains that bind. If Uranus thinks that changes need to be made he will not be content with a minor renovation- if your life needs an overhaul, repainting a room will simply not cut the mustard- although it may calm your restless urges for a time. If you think that you can control your environment, think again- the area of life that Uranus is transiting becomes totally unpredictable.
The more that you have done what is expected of you, or the responsible thing and been who other people want you to be, thought the way other people want you to think and felt and loved the way society tells you that you should feel and love the harder these transits will be for you. As one who has done this, and to a certain extent, continues to do this, Uranus conjunctions are flipping painful…but exciting and liberating all at the same time.
As an example, when Uranus crossed my Ascendant a few years ago, my appearance changed relatively suddenly. I felt like I was running on nervous energy and lost 12kgs quickly, got (a lot of) blonde streaks and a tattoo. A year or so later when he crossed my Sun a lot of stuff was happening with my sense of self. At Chiron, unhealed injuries flared up suddenly. At the last station direct he was about to cross my Moon for the 3rd and final time and how I felt was volatile to say the least. This time around he is still in the first house but sitting just a couple of minutes of arc away from my natal Saturn (which is at 00Aries 58’). Me thinks my structures and boundaries are about to be, shall we say, tickled a little.
If Aries for you is on an angle, ie in the 1st, 10th ,7th or the 4th, who you are, what you do, where you do it from and who you do it with; will all attract some of the unpredictable, rebellious Uranian spark. It is pointless to resist- go with it. This is especially true if you have sensitive chart points (especially the Sun or Moon) at or around 0-2 degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn.
If this is you, don’t be surprised if (to quote K T Tunstall) suddenly you see who you want to be, where you want to be, who you want to be with and what you want to be doing…and why the hell it means so much to you…whether you do anything about it is an entirely different story…
