Tuesday Toolbox 6

Female engineer

So anyways, now we’ve covered what each house represents.

We have the angular houses– houses 1, 4, 7 and 10. These houses are also known as the cross of matter. They are associated with action.

We have the succedent houses– houses 2, 5, 8 and 11. These are associated with security and resources.

We have the cadent houses– houses 3, 6, 9, and 12. Each of these houses is about learning or teaching.

If you want a full round up of house meanings, check out also this post on the blog.

Now we’re ready to add an extra layer to the mix- the elements. There are four of them- and each house is associated with one.

As we look at the elements, we’re beginning also to build a picture of what comprises each of the 12 signs of the zodiac…but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Fire

Think about a fire. Any fire. What does it need? What does it try to do? What direction does it try and go in? How does it make you feel?

Fire wants to move forward- as far forward as it can see and beyond that- towards the horizon and the future. It needs space to move. It’s a spark, it’s an idea, it’s warm and it’s vital. It’s conception. The nature of Fire is hot and dry.

Houses 1, 5 and 9 are associated with Fire.

Earth

Earth has function and form. It’s what we stand on, what we build on, and the materials that we build with. Earth manifests substance and body. It’s dense, it’s heavy and it’s rooted here and now in the present. Earth gives the vision form, function and substance. Earth is rooted in the present. Earth is dense and heavy. The nature of Earth is cold and dry.

Houses 2, 6, and 10 are associated with Earth.

Air

Can you see air? Touch it? Hold it? You know it’s there- you breathe it in, you see it move the trees, the clouds. You feel it when it wafts across you. Air is light, detached, and separate. It’s also connective and essential for movement. Air needs space and will seek to move towards that. The nature of Air is hot and moist.

Houses 3, 7 and 11 are associated with Air.

Water

Water is elusive- it will take the form of whatever is holding it, yet also seeks to form its own path in escaping. Water is as deep and mysterious as the ocean, as dark and still as a lake. It can forge new paths through valleys, and dissolve mountains. Water dissolves barriers to bring things together. Water is attachment and bonding. The nature of Water is cold and moist.

Houses 4, 8 and 12 are associated with Water.

Doing it for yourself…

Pull out your chart and label each house with its element. If you’ve been labelling your chart as you go along, it should be starting to look something like this.

the quadrants

Now, have a look and see how many planets you have in:

  • Fire houses
  • Earth houses
  • Air houses
  • Water houses

Again, don’t worry yet about what the signs or the planets mean.

Until next week…
