Mercury square Pluto

Mercury opposite Jupiter

Moon in Aquarius

I’m writing this on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, but if all has gone to plan, today is the day we move into our new home.

It’s also our daughter’s 19th birthday. Where have those years gone?

Mercury square Pluto can leave you susceptible to preoccupation with a particular issue; it can also bring frustration and a propensity to try and have others follow your ideas of viewpoint. I’ll take that one step further and suggest there could be arguments when it comes to putting beds back together.

With Mercury also opposite Jupiter today, little issues could be blown out of all proportion – as anyone who has ever moved house will be able to attest to!

The key? Flexibility and optimism. The glass isn’t just half full – what you had was bloody delicious and now there’s room for more. That sort of thinking.

The Week Ahead…

So anyways, I’ve had the head cold from hell this week. Yes, I’m dramatising…but as I (usually) only get one of these a year (touch a lot of wood), a little whingeing is absolutely allowed.

I did the soldier on and make like a martyr thing at work, but didn’t have the energy to get any other writing done once I did get home. Luckily I’d already scheduled everything that needed to be scheduled. Except this post, of course.

In a way, as frustrating as it’s been not to be able to enjoy yesterdays fabulous Spring weather, it’s all worked out as it should have. My copy edit arrived back from the editor on Friday, so given that I wasn’t well enough to do much else, I got stuck into that yesterday and knocked over about 139 pages. Hashtag winning.

In a way, it was the whole Mars-Jupiter conjunction thing working at it’s best. How do I figure that? Mars is in my 8th house natally, and rules my 9th (associated with publishing, travel etc…and this book is both). Jupiter is in my 5th house (creativity) natally and rules the 10th (career) and both are joined currently in Virgo- my 6th house. When you think about it, it was all perfect energy to do detailed (Virgo), deep (8th house Mars) work (6th house) on a book (5th house) for publication (9th house) by me as the publisher (10th).

How’s that for looking for a silver lining to my miserabilism?

I’m really happy with this book. The edit is (so far) relatively light, with hardly any structural revisions required. I’m still agonising over the cover though. I wrote a little about that- and the rest of the week that was- in the Friday Five.

Also up on and anyways were a few scheduled writing posts. We’re coming up to the annual marathon for writers that is National Novel Writing Month- or NaNoWriMo. I’ve done it each year since 2007. I wasn’t going to this year, as I’ll be on holiday for the back half of November and into December, but it’s a great excuse to take a new idea out for a test flight, so how hard can it be? Right?

If you want to take up the challenge, check out this post, and keep your eyes open for the others I have scheduled.

To the sky and the week ahead.

Aside from the Moon doing her lunary thing, there’s not a lot in the way of major aspects until Friday when a couple of connections with Pluto herald in the Scorpio season.

Any connection with Pluto has to do with power, ambition, force and obsession. Despite the strength of these words- or any words involving Pluto- the outcomes don’t have to be unpleasant- although they absolutely can be.

Mercury square Pluto is the more difficult of the two- squares, usually are…although also potentially the most transformative of the two…squares usually are. At it’s most literal the phrases that come to me are things like: compulsive thinking, one-track mind, preoccupation with something, attempts to force your point of view onto someone else.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be about being right all the time, or having the last word, or compelling others to agree with you- especially if the issue itself isn’t really that important in the scheme of things.

Turning these around, this focus is great if you need to concentrate on something, not so good if it clouds your judgement and closes your mind to other possibilities. It’s also perfect energy for getting to the bottom of something- even if you have to deal with resistance to get there.

Active at the same time is a trine between Venus and Pluto. Whilst any contact with Pluto intensifies relationships, it will help you manage and hardness the potential that’s in that Mercury-Pluto square- simply by allowing you to understand the deep and, potentially, hidden motivations of those you are dealing with. Remember, you’re not just looking at romantic relationships here- but also work relationships, partnerships, etc. Keep this in mind if you’re eye-balling someone over a meeting table on Friday.

And then on Saturday, the Sun moves into Scorpio. I quite like the energy that’s around this- the Moon and Neptune are joined at 7 Pisces, and Venus, Jupiter and Mars are at 13, 15, and 17 Virgo respectively. No, this probably has absolutely no significance at all- except that I’m a tad partial to the arrangement of the numbers.

The week ahead…

It’s been a big week here in Chez Tracey.

Aside from the usual business of the partition, the majority of the week was taken up with activities associated with Miss 17’s last week of formal schooling. She graduated from High School on Friday, and had their formal dinner/dance on Friday night.

It’s not over yet, though…they have the next two weeks for study, and then the final exams commence. These go until early November, and it’s those marks that determine whether or not they get into the University course that they’re aiming for. For some, this is more pressure than their 17/18 year old brains should have to cope with.

Miss 17 isn’t really sure yet what her final preferences will be. Although a little frustrating, I think it’s her way of keeping her options open and not putting too much pressure on herself. We went and looked at another campus here in Sydney last Saturday- the main photo was taken walking there from the train station. Now we do the wait and see thing.

Anyways, I wrote a little about how I’m feeling about it here. If you want some photos from the day, I posted a few in this piece.

Ok, to the skies. We have a lot to get through, so settle in and listen up.

First up on Wednesday, the Sun moves into Libra. There’s a post scheduled, so keep your eyes open for that. For now, have a look at what house/houses Libra covers in your chart. If you’re not sure how to do this, refer back to Lesson 1 in the Toolbox series. This is the part of life that will be for you receiving the Sun’s light over the next few weeks. You can help out, by intentionally thinking about the affairs of this house. Are things aligned, or does some re-balancing need to occur?

Also on Wednesday, Venus and Uranus connect. This is usually a stimulating, energising, break from the everyday sort of transit. It is not one of those nothing is working, so the whole thing has to be thrown out sort of transit. There is a difference- so my advice would be to go with the former and resist any impulses around the latter.

The Sun aligns with both the North Node (conjunct) and Saturn (sextile) on Thursday. I don’t write a huge amount about the nodes here, but and Sun conjunction is worth talking about- especially when Saturn is also involved.

The North Node is sort of like a karmic path pointer- this way lies something that you need to do, but will probably be quite hard. The directional pointers won’t be clear, because you haven’t been that way before.

Yep, it’s Saturn stuff.

Sextiles generally mean opportunities, and sextiles between two planets in masculine signs (remember what you learnt in Toolbox) generally mean that you don’t have to look too hard for the opportunities. In this case, with Saturn involved, the opportunities you don’t have to look too hard for, mightn’t (on first glance) appear that enticing…but this is about long run, need to do for the future type of stuff.

Mercury squares off against Pluto on Friday. Mercury is retrograde, and Pluto is stationary and about ready to turn direct- something that will happen on Saturday.

Anyways, we experienced a Mercury-Pluto square just a couple of weeks ago. Think back to any clashes from around the 10th of September. Similar sparks could be flying now, and similar roadblocks could be in place. As I said back then- that’s ok. Although it’s easy to say that it’s their problem and not yours, an open mind, and wider perspective could allow you to move ahead without too many tears. The struggle, if there is one, will come when you hold on too hard to an idea or judgement.

Also on Friday, Mars moves into Virgo- yes, I’ve scheduled an old post to be re-posted for then. As Mars transits are like reboots for that part of life, I’ve suggested you might want to intentionally take a look at where Virgo is in your chart and figure out what needs boosting and tweaking.

Speaking of Mars, he squares off against Saturn on Saturday. This has a definite rock and a hard place sort of feeling about it, but it’s important to remember that both planets are full of the sort of energy you get when you first move somewhere and are all enthusiastic with “some things are gonna change around here.” It’s also important to note that we’re talking about two mutable signs- Virgo and Sagittarius- so finding that point of flexibility will be the key to making the most of this high potential, albeit relatively brief, transit.

Have a great week…

The Week Ahead- Looking Forward….

So anyways, my copy edit came back from the editor last Friday. This meant that the hours that I didn’t spend commuting or at the partition job, I spent editing. 98,000 words…that’s a lot of editing to do in a week.

It’s done now- which means I move onto proof reading. It’s times like these that I wish I were a little more in touch with my Virgo opposite!

It’s all going well though, and my editor was happy with the changes I’d made, and the way the book is shaping up.

I’m getting closer to publication date, so from here it’s lots of little bits and pieces. If you want to keep up with it all, I’m blogging it over at Tracey Hamill. I’ll be starting to introduce the characters over the next couple of weeks.

In case you missed it, my cover is below.

Joanne Tracey_Baby Its You- comp

Even though this is pure escapist fiction- and absolutely nothing to do with astrology- I’ve been asked a lot lately whether my characters have charts. They do…it’s one of the first things I do when I start a new draft. It’s also the only piece of planning I do in the process. I’ll share those charts here over the next few weeks too.

To the skies.

We have a bit of a Mercurial week coming up. Mercury is in Aries, so wants his opinion to be heard. Mercury in Aries can also be a little….challenged….shall we say, when it comes to perspective. As a result, Tuesdays square-off with Pluto could be a tad challenging.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself…

Later today Mercury trines Jupiter and the Sun joins forces with Uranus.

I’m supposed to be proofreading, but I’m using that Mercury and Jupiter trine to plan some creative meals for lime week, and preschedule some posts. Yes, I am taking the easy way out- proof reading is not something I’ve been looking forward to- but that’s sort of part of this transit anyway.

It’s a great aspect for future planning, big picture thinking- which is perfect for the Sun- Uranus conjunction later tonight.

Sun is ego, and Uranus is surprising, rebellious, unexpected, impulsive, rash, future thinking…you get the idea.

The message for most of us is one of not being surprised by surprises…or don’t be surprised if you’re seeking release from something- or someone. It could be something as simple as a habit, or as complex as a job or a relationship. It could be something you’re actively going after, or something that subconsciously you’re being prompted to do.

If you have personal planets or chart points within a couple of degrees of 16 Aries, Cancer, Capricorn or Libra, this could trigger something a little more lively. Uranus transits should come with heavy machinery warnings, so if this is you, and you’re feeling particularly anxious or jittery, avoid anything that could result in a mishap…at least for the day.

My bestie has this one in his solar return…I’m predicting an interesting year!

On Tuesday, Mercury squares off against Pluto and joins forces with Uranus to do so. I don’t know about you, but that one has mischief written all over it.

Let’s break it down.

Mercury is communication, messages, the way we think, and the things we think about. Pluto is intense, compulsive, sometimes obsessive, and deep. Both Aries and Capricorn are ambitious and competitive signs- in their own ways. Put this all together and you could get power plays. You could also get compulsive thinking, and someone trying to force their opinion onto you…or vice versa.

As with all squares, there is huge potential to do good rather than harm. It does require discipline, honesty, and a preparedness to look within.

Enter Uranus.

While Capricorn can tend to dwell on the way things have always been done- the tried and true methods of success, Uranus wants to change the world…or at least, in this case, the way you think.

You don’t need to completely give in, but looking forward rather than back can open your eyes to new possibilities. You’ll need to be quick though, as the thoughts and concepts could be flying around faster than you can catch them.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Jupiter stations direct. For anyone with their Sun, Moon, Ascendant in Pisces or Sagittarius, this will be a breath of fresh air. Bring out the dancing girls. Here’s a link to a little something that I wrote a couple of years ago about Jupiter direct.

We finish the working week with the Sun and Mercury conjunct. Somehow it seems appropriate after their being involved in pretty well everything all week.

At it’s simplest level, this is one of those aspects where the words somehow seem to flow. It’s happening in Aries, so there could be some competition to be heard, or some impulse to be first…but on the whole, it’s a good day for getting your message across, starting a new project, or taking in new ideas and experiences.

The only warning? Don’t get too self involved and maintain your sense of humour. You really don’t want to miss out on what others have to say- especially since you don’t know how what they have to say could potentially help you…

Have a great week!

Let it Be: Full Moon in Virgo

I interrupted my husband (he was busy cooking dinner…a thai green curry, in case you are interested…) to ask him what I can say about this Full Moon.

He paused to make out that he was considering my question seriously.

‘Well,’ he said, with great authority, ‘it is round and it is big…’

Wow- such insight!

‘And,’ he added, ‘I don’t reckon we will see it again tonight because of the cloud cover. Does that diminish its power? Do you think it’ll ever stop raining?’

Obviously not a lot of help from that quarter…

‘So,’ he asked, ‘what sign is it in?’

‘Do you care?’

‘Sure, I’ll impress you with what I know.’

‘It’s in Virgo.’

‘oh Jeez…well, you would have to say that reason goes out the window wouldn’t you?’

‘Why would you say that?’

‘Well, that’s what they say don’t they? What about “Virgos should avoid making judgement on people at this time?”’

Hmmm not bad. Lucky he makes a bloody good thai green curry.

‘Oh, by the way Darlin’, I think you need to say that Scorpio is the most mis-understood sign. I don’t know why people assume we want retribution. You need to write that.’

Then he says, ‘and make sure you don’t misquote me- I don’t want to have to hunt you down.’

So, Virgo Full Moon. Technical details: 7.38pm (Sydney time) at 18 Virgo.

Sure it links with Mars (retrograde, but a link is a link). The usual attention to detail and critical analysis applies- particularly to the areas where the Full Moon lies in your chart. But you know what? I’m just a tad over talking about Virgo and order or organisation.

Virgo is, like all earth signs, sensual and body aware. So, at this Full Moon, rather than looking at the usual Virgo stuff, let’s think about this dichotomy in terms of body and spirit or judgement and non-judgement. What about thinking not about where we see perfection, seek perfection, idealise perfection but rather where we choose not to make judgement, choose to overlook those niggly little concerns and instead embrace what is.

The Pisces/Virgo axis is that area where we work so hard for absolute perfection that we forget all about moderating behaviours and pleasures. It is also this axis where we project our own imperfections (or perceived limitations) onto those around us. It is where we discriminate and where we are completely indiscriminate.

The ruler of this Full Moon is Mercury, who, we remember, is about to turn retrograde. Mercury is also approaching a square to Pluto. It is particularly important at this Full Moon to keep an open mind and avoid dwelling on worries that are either inconsequential or where there is no action that can be taken.

Pluto tends to compulsion and obsession, so when Mercury squares off against the Lord of the Dark, there is a very real possibility of frustration regarding getting your message across to others. Just remember, the only thoughts you can control are your own (well, if you have a better Mercury than mine anyway).

Further, you can’t, control the thoughts or opinions of others- nor should you try to do so. I have big trouble with this one- and often take things personally when randomness and detachment is more appropriate.

So, at this Full Moon, turn the energy inward. Think about where you may be casting judgement where in fact, you may be better of to just let it be. Think also about where you can make positive improvements whilst still being gentle with yourself. Think also about what may be hidden and what now will be exposed…

In my case, this Full Moon falls across the ASC/DC line in my chart- that is the line across the middle. It is conjunct Pluto and therefore opposite my Ascendant (and Sun), and inconjunct Venus…oh, and square the Midheaven. Any Full Moon that falls on an angle ie near the 1st/7th or 4th/10th is important. I know very well just where I am overly hard on myself…I also know where a little more effort would actually be a good thing…

So, check out you chart (if you need to cast one, go to and throw your details in) and check out any planets or chart points which fall between:

16-20 Pisces

16-20 Virgo

16-20 Gemini

16-20 Sagittarius

You may also feel it at: 16-20 Taurus, 16-20 Capricorn, 16-20 Cancer, 16-20 Scorpio.

Anyways, todays #marchphotoaday challenge is “window”. The photo above is the view out my study window, ie where I work. The photo below is the detail of the stained glass fairy/mermaid-ish/bubble lady and butterfly that I made (quite) a few years ago when I was going through a bit of a stained glass phase.

From a distance it looks pretty good, but if you notice closely, some of my bubbles are not completely round (have you ever tried cutting and filing a perfectly round glass circle?) and quite a lot of the copper and welding work is way too thick…and the butterfly isn’t meant to be so close to it, but fell against it as I pressed the shutter, and seriously, what is going on with that hair/head join? And as for next doors’ cherry tomatoes, there are a few that need picking…

Full Moon in Virgo…see what I mean?
