Mars conjunct Uranus

Moon in Pisces

Ok, so as this goes to print, the solar eclipse was about 5 hours ago. If you haven’t already done so, you still have time to set your New Moon intentions. Refer back to the New Moon post from the other day for some pointers.

Today’s star aspect is a power-packed meeting between Mars and Uranus. When these two get together it can be a little like you’ve given the kids the keys to the high performance sports car and they’ve taken off from school to go joyriding with the soundtrack from Yello’s Oh Yeah beating in the background. Oh wait, that was Ferris Bueller…but you get the idea.

Under a Mars- Uranus conjunction anything can happen – and probably will!

Ok, how to deal with this?

  • Don’t make firm plans – even the best laid plans could be de-railed
  • Don’t act rashly or impulsively – at least not unless you’re sure of your Plan B, or safety net, or with all risks assessed…although then I suppose it wouldn’t be an impulsive action…
  • Avoid working with sharp objects and dangerous tools and heavy machinery- at least without the necessary safety equipment.

Oh, you know what? Just be aware that any trouble you get yourself into now will be a result of your own carelessness – don’t even think of putting the blame onto anyone else. Besides, the Moon is in Pisces, and that could take the edge off all that sparky, unpredictable, firebrand energy.

Before you all write to me about how this is a pessimistic post, this vibe is absolutely great if you need to assert your independence or individuality in any way – just take care not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. It’s also great if you’ve been waiting for the right level of motivation to kick-start a creative or innovative project.

That mojo you thought you lost? I reckon you won’t have to look too far to find it today…

The Week Ahead: Happy Birthday to Me

So anyways, it’s been mad, and now it isn’t.

I turned my book, Baby, It’s You, over to the loving care of my editor, my final copy has been delivered for the big commissioned work I was writing, and the final draft has been completed for manuscript no 2- tentatively titled Big Girls Don’t Cry. It will now be put aside for a few weeks to settle.

Late this evening I have a skype session booked with my cover designer to discuss the final details of that, but for now, I’ll bring you up to speed on what’s happening in the skies this week.

In case you didn’t know, the Moon is currently in Libra. How did I know? I went shopping for a mascara today and walked out with a nail polish, a you beaut primer for under my foundation, a new foundation, an eye shadow compact, the most gorgeous ink blue liner you ever did see, and a mascara. Not only did I buy all that, I faffed around at the counter, and had my face done, and oohed and aahed over brands and packaging. Names, dahling, names. What can I say? I have a Venus Return in just a few hours…

The general consensus was that last week was difficult…challenging…some could say feral. This week is full of aspects involving Mars, so hold onto your hats.

Mars is about energy and action. It can be assertion, or aggression- depending on how you manifest it. It’s a small, but important difference- stand your ground, defend your ground, or look to win more ground. In Aries, Mars burns hot and fast- and will want to win.

We ease (?) into this rather Martian week with a trine to Jupiter on Tuesday. Jupiter makes things bigger- expands what he touches. Add this to energy, and you have a lot of activity. This is a great aspect for getting things done. It’s also one that could get the creative juices flowing. Just how lucky do you feel?

It’s Thursday when the big guns come out to play. This also happens to be my birthday, so I have these two aspects in my Solar Return all year. Hmmm…I’ll post something about that later in the week.

What am I talking about? Mars conjunct Uranus and Mars square Pluto. Yes, that means that the final Uranus square Pluto transit is also in orb. Oh the joy of it all.

I’ve written about it before, but to save you following the links, here’s what I said last time:

This is all about hanging onto things- whether it’s power, the perception of power, a habit, a dream, knowledge, a belief.

It’s about letting go of what we don’t need to be hanging on to, and it’s about knowing the difference.

It’s about doing the same things over and over again and expecting the same result.

It’s about treating knowledge and experience and the way it’s always been done as power and wondering why things are passing you by.

It’s about having the same fight about the same stuff and wondering why it’s not all going away.

It’s about closing your mind against the fear of change and progress and not seeing the possibility.

It’s about tension, and chaos, and headaches

It’s about seeing through the bullshit and into the truth.

It’s about recognising that something or someone or somewhere is now so yesterday and that you’re so tomorrow already.

It’s about dynamic starts, innovations and inspired and future driven beginnings.

It’s about looking at things from a new and possibly radical angle.

It’s about swimming against the tide, and running outside the herd.

It’s about looking forward not back.

It’s about letting go, not hanging on.

It’s about all of these things- and you don’t have to have planets at 13 15 degrees of the cardinal signs to be feeling it.

Is it all bad?

Absolutely not.

Will it be uncomfortable?

Possibly. Probably. Most change is.

And I have it in my solar return…all year. I know I should be concerned, but to be honest, I’m not. I’ve felt something circling for a while, and now I just want to face it. I’ve been scared of lots of things, and this year is going to be about dealing with that. It’s life, in all its textured pain and glory.

The thing is, even if you don’t have a planet at 15 degrees of Aries, Capricorn, Cancer, Libra or pretty well anywhere else, we all have 15 Capricorn and 15 Aries somewhere in our chart- it’s those parts of life that the current aspect arrangement is impacting.

Look beyond yourself- it could be someone else in your life with a heap of planets at these degrees in their chart. It could be a partner, a sibling, a parent, a child, a boss, any old person. Transits by association.

If you are impacted? The best way to cope with this one is through a positive use of the energy- and the best positive use for energy that I know of is disciplined training.

Things start to wind down a little of Friday as Mercury moves into dreamy Pisces. I’m looking forward to that one- although I suspect anyone prone to Mercury retrogrades wouldn’t be. Why? Mercury in Pisces can be a little like a Mercury retrograde. It’s one of those ingresses where it’s best to go with the flow, and send your imagination out for a spin.

Until next time…

Daily Planets Monday 4 April, 2011 A little more Mars and a New Moon

Cosmo at Saks 5th avenue- close enough to a martini? Pic by me.

As I mentioned in yesterdays’ blog, I have got my Mars on in a huge way. Even this morning I was angry enough to take on the Middle East crisis single handed, let alone the incredible incompetence of the local football club. Seriously just how hard can it be to get a draw done? It really is a case of don’t make me fight this particular fight- it won’t be pretty! Barack, if you need me, I am ready, willing and at the moment, very able…

Lunch with a friend and some NZ planning calmed me down somewhat, finishing a heap of painting gave me a sense of accomplishment & the perfect martini my husband has just made me should leave me able to tackle the Sunday night ironing basket.

The theme for the next 24 hours is the same, but with an extra burst of rash impulsiveness provided by the Mars/Uranus conjunction. As Robert hand writes “no other transit is more conducive than this one to sudden upsets, rash behaviour and surprising incidents. Energy seems to burst out all over the place and in surprising forms…so much happens without warning.” Wow! You have been warned!

The Sun and Moon are opposite Mr Fun Cop himself who is draining essential energy in an effort to slow things down, this just breeds frustration. Which brings me to the New Moon. Read my post, work out where this is happening in your life and go from there. Aries is youthful, vital, selfish energy and seriously, there is nothing wrong with it being all about you.

Some links to New Moon articles from a few of my faves make worthwhile reading too:

I love this by Dana Gerhardt on I especially love the analogy that “Aries wants you to do yourself as though you were a verb…”

Another by April Elliott Kent talks about the Aries part of your chart as where you may not play nicely with the other members of your particular sandbox.

Leah Whitehorse’ piece over at Lua Astrology reminds us of the Saturn effect (flipping Saturn!) and Julie Demboski’s post asks whether your view is half full or half empty.

So, if tonights’ New Moon (just after midnight Sydney time) is the 1st New Moon of the astrological year, does that mean yet another New Years Eve tonight? If so, make like a Babylonian and give back all that borrowed farm equipment and make like me and grab another martini…it’ll make the ironing basket look better.

Oh, and I will leave you tonight with the April 1 news that Richard Branson has bought Pluto and is reinstating him as a planet. Thanks Sir Richard for giving small business across the Universe a fighting chance…and all of us a sense of humour.

Gonna Burn Your Name Right Across the Sky- New Moon in Aries

The New Moon isn’t until Monday morning 12.32am Sydney time, but this one needs some preparation!

There are a heap of statistics that re out there telling us how many people break their New Year Resolutions. There are a heap more that want to estimate how many people fail to honour them… same thing really? Either way the number is estimated at anything between 60-88%, depending on the source you read. Even though I have this theory that 94.5% of all statistics are made up, I tend to believe that these numbers are pretty close to the mark. But Astrology, or more specifically the New Moon in Aries, is here to give you another shot at it.

Whether yours is to lose weight, quit smoking, reduce debt, cut back on other nasties or accelerate your 5 year plan with a 2 year deadline, the chances are that sitting here now in April, things have fallen off the tracks.

Just when is the right time to utter those fateful words “This year I will….” remains up for conjecture.  Should you do it before during or after the New Years Eve party? Should you say it exactly on the 1st, last or whatever stroke of midnight? Should you take your time to think about your goal (and for the after effects of the NYE party to wear off) and make your resolution for the 1st New Moon of the year- in Capricorn? Should you wait still further until Chinese New Year, or even the astrological New Year when the Sun moves into Aries at the end of March?

I have read a number of blogs and articles recently suggesting that the best time to make a New Year Resolution is actually now… well in the next couple of days with the New Moon in Aries- the 1st New Moon of the astrological year. And this certainly makes a lot of sense. During the Balsamic phase we get rid of everything we no longer need, perform whatever banishing rituals we need to perform and wipe the slate clean. At the New Moon, we start the cycle again.

The New Moon energy is always one of new beginnings. Just like in the Powderfinger song:

Gonna burn your name right across the sky so I’ll never forget what the feeling’s like.

A New Moon, especially an Aries New Moon turns the sky into a great big empty blackboard that you can write your intentions on… I love that. And there is nothing quite as new as an Aries New Moon.

The Aries energy is one of new, almost childlike enthusiasm to explore, to be the first, to start something brilliant. And first things can never be repeated- you can’t share a first kiss twice, or go somewhere for the first time again or get on a plane for the first time…well, you get the idea. The Aries energy is the New Moon energy. Most importantly, Aries New Moon energy is about you. So right now, there is nothing more exciting and new and first than you and your potential.

History, it seems, agrees that the best time to make a New Year Resolution is in the northern Spring. I read a column by a Dr Rick Miller (from a University of Nebraska Kearney online publication) who wrote that the earliest recording of New Year Resolutions was by the Babylonians 4000 years ago. It seems, however, that the most common goal of the ancient Babylonians was not to shed 20 kgs or be nice to that girl/guy in the next partition- it was….wait for it… to return borrowed farm equipment.

This New Moon is absolutely super charged. Conjunct a Jupiter that is just bursting at the seams with optimism to crash through boundaries and grow, grow , grow and opposite Saturn who is reminding us that structures need to be respected to enable us to do what we need to do. Structure and stability is all very well, but Saturn can also bring fear and restraint and a warning to be careful and not grow or expand too quickly. The right pace is somewhere in the middle, as of course, it always is.

To make life even more interesting Mars and Uranus are conjunct in the 1st degree of Aries. Mars is particularly energised by his recent move into Aries and is ready to do major mischief with Uranus. If you are feeling trapped in any way, there may be one hell of a temptation thrown your way. Exciting? In fact so exciting I had to post this a few days early!

So, for those of you with next doors lawnmower, shovel, trailer or whipper snipper that you borrowed aeons ago from your best mate (and you know who you are…), make like the Babylonians and include in your First New Moon of the Astrological Year Resolution to give it back…and then grab what is on offer with both hands- without that whipper snipper in the back shed, you will have plenty of room.
