Astroweather: February 14, 2018

Okay, okay, I know that it’s Valentine’s Day, but as this goes to press I’ll be away from home and interstate on a work trip and not feeling the Valentine thing…not that we ever actually “do” Valentine’s Day, but you get the idea.

First up, it’s Mercury square Jupiter.

We’re constantly told to live in the moment. If, like me, you’re active on Instagram – as an aside, it is seriously my favourite social media app of all…just saying…hashtag – you’ll be bombarded with clever memes about focusing on now, or today, or whatever.

I get that. If I’m being honest, I’d admit to wishing that I “got” it more. The thing is, there are times where we need to think about the future, plan for the future, have an idea of how you want the future to look. Otherwise, how do you know where you’re headed? And yes, I’m aware that the proponents of now-ism would say it doesn’t matter, you don’t need to know. Well, you know what? I’m ok for my plans to change along the path as life in all of its multi-textured splendour gets in the way of every well-laid plan, but I like for there to be something there to deviate from in the first place. Know what I mean?

It’s like leaving it until the last minute to realise you’ve outgrown your house and you have no financial plans in place to rectify it. It’s like when town planners release heaps of new lots of land or houses without considering the infrastructure required to deal with all the extra cars, or schools or shops. Oh right, that’s probably not a great example…but you get the idea.

Even if it’s just a bucket list or a dream destinations list – although these are probably more fitting to Pisces or Neptune contacts – this transit is a great one for long-range forecasting or modelling. Think bigger, wider, broader, but take care to remain flexible in your approach and your ideas. What else? Avoid being preachy and refusing to consider the viewpoints of others, don’t forget to stop and consider the finer details, and finally, stay optimistic, but not recklessly so. I’m sure you know what I mean about that.

Sun sextile Uranus

The whole of Aquarius season is about, at its core, individuation. I hate that word – much like I hate the word journey – but the message is appropriate. Wherever Aquarius is in your chart is the house that Uranus rules in your chart, and is where the outcomes of all Uranus transits are felt.

Sure, this probably means nothing if you’re not receiving any Uranus transits at the moment, but your Aquarius house is integral to your core or self-truth.

Today’s aspect – Sun sextile Uranus – is an opportunity for you to act a little more freely, make things a little more interesting, mix routine up a little more.

It’s not a day for making wholesale changes, or grand rebellious gestures, or even achieving breakthroughs. What it is, is an opportunity for you to follow your interest, your curiosity and just see where it takes you. Tweak a few things here and there, perhaps. It’s these small opportunities that, when taken, help further down the track when Uranus really is getting serious about prodding you to be who you really are.

Aquarius New Moon and Solar Eclipse

New Moon 27 Aquarius 08′ Solar Eclipse

8.06am 16 February, 2018 (Sydney AEDT), 9.06pm 15 February 2018 (GMT)

There are a few aspects to talk about in the days leading up to this New Moon, so I’m scheduling this post a few days earlier than I normally would. When you set your intentions though, take those aspects – the ones I’ll be telling you about in the next couple of days – into consideration.

Given that it’s the 2nd New Moon after the solstice, the Aquarius New Moon also coincides with Chinese New year.

I don’t know a lot about Chinese astrology, but I do know that this is the year of the Dog. I just googled my Sheep/Goat horoscope to see what the Year of the Dog had in store for me (don’t ask me for the site, I seriously was just googling around) and apparently I need to be wary of accidents when scuba diving and mountain climbing. Seriously though, it seems there are some surprises and successes, and I need to make health my top priority and watch also for shoulder injuries (just when I’m getting back into swimming).

Anyways, I’ll clean the house this afternoon and wash my hair – part of the whole new year thing is to go into the new year with a clean slate and clean hair. Washing your hair in the first couple of days of the new year can apparently wash your prosperity away. I’ll also roll oranges…or is it mandarins?…over my threshold…just to be sure.

A new Chinese lunar year means a new moon for us all – and that new moon is in Aquarius…so what perfect time to think about your connections.

We’ve been here on the Sunshine Coast for almost a year now and I can say that the only thing I miss about my life in Sydney is friends and family. Working from home I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to meet new people – not yet. I may never have met some of the people I actively “talk” to every day on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram (mostly Instagram – I’m rarely to be found on Facebook these days), but there are a number of people in social media and the blogging community who are part of my sprawling connection network. They’re in my life in some way for some reason. We’ve all connected for a reason.

Everyone that we connect with teaches us something about ourselves, and – good or bad – is there any better gift? Perhaps the greatest challenge we have is to grow into our own skin…to become who we need to be…who we are meant to be.

Sure we have issues with fear, and desire, and hunger and power, but at the end of the day, the only person whose opinion of us really matters to us is our own.

Most of the time we don’t think too much about this. Why would we? Every so often though, something rings our bell. An issue with authority, someone threatening our independence, someone forcing us into the category they believe we should be in, a cause we passionately want to band together with others to pursue.

Yes, what I’m talking about here is the Uranian story. It tends to come up each time transiting Uranus triggers something in your chart, or each time Uranus itself is triggered.

To an extent, it’s also being triggered now – at the Aquarius New Moon.

Wherever 27 Aquarius 08’ (or thereabouts) is in your chart is where issues of independence, individuality, attitude to authority, conformity and connectivity are being raised. It’s also where you now have an opportunity to set intentions to tweak these issues.

The thing about New Moons is that it’s dark – you don’t know what’s around the corner. You have to take the first steps into the dark without knowing what’s around the corner.

The other thing about New Moons is, very often nothing happens to you, it happens within you. You’re the one who needs to set the intention and see what happens.

This New Moon happens to also be a solar eclipse – reinforcing the Uranian themes of this New Moon. (If you want to know more about eclipses, I posted something a few weeks ago.)

To be really technical, this one is from the same series of eclipses (Saros Series 1 South) that last came around in January and February 2000, and before that in January 1982.

To quote from Bernadette Brady’s The Eagle and the Lark:

‘This family of eclipses is concerned with ideas and their enthusiastic expression. If this eclipse affects your chart, you will be flooded with ideas or options. There may seem to be an element of haste, but if you can go with the new ideas, they will have positive outcomes.

Doing it for yourself…

As you probably know by now, this site isn’t about telling you what will happen, but rather giving you the tools to attempt to identify the themes for yourself. That’s the DIY part of the tagline. If you’ve been reading along, you should know how to find where the New Moon is happening in your chart. If you’re new to this site (welcome), duck across and check out this post before you go any further.

The position you’re looking for is 27 Aquarius 08, or thereabouts. This is the area of life that you’re being asked to look at your connections, your individuality, your future.

Now, let’s set our intentions. Think about the area of life you’re focusing on and set small achievable targets. Make sure that you do at least one thing towards this goal this month. If you’re unsure where to start, check out this post.

  • How do the concerns of this house make you feel?
  • How would you like to feel about them?
  • What positive steps can you take over the next four weeks to minimise the gap between how you feel about this are and how you’d like to feel?

*****Write it down!!!!!!!!!!******

This is the 12th house for me, so I’m focusing on how I relax, unwind – and the fact that I rarely do either – and those habits that continually bring me undone. The 12th is a house whether things tend to be done subconsciously and, as Aquarius is a fixed sign, the habits are, shall we say, well ingrained.

Make like Aquarius and think future, think authentic and think outside the box. What can you do over the next 28 days to change this situation? Are there any quick wins to be had? Be a little progressive and left-field when you’re setting intentions.

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide:

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius, this New Moon falls in your1st house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces this New Moon falls in your12th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries, this New Moon falls in your11th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Taurus, this New Moon falls in your10th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini, this New Moon falls in your9th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer this New Moon falls in your8th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo this New Moon falls in your7th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo, this New Moon falls in your6th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Libra, this New Moon falls in your5th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio, this New Moon falls in your4th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, this New Moon falls in your3rd house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, this New Moon falls in your2nd house.

If you haven’t been doing so, why not try journaling your lunar journey- you’ll be surprised how, in hindsight, more has been going on than you might have thought.

Gong xi fa cai- happiness and prosperity…

Astroweather: 10 February 2018

Sun square Jupiter

This is one of those aspects where even if you feel as though you’ve bitten off more than you can chew – and, let’s face it, you probably have – the potential is there for you achieve stuff that you mightn’t have thought possible.

Given that both the Sun and Jupiter are currently in fixed signs (Aquarius and Scorpio respectively) even if you have taken on more than you would normally be able to handle, you’re probably unlikely to admit that to anyone.

The fine print? If you do meet with opposition or obstruction do try and see their point of view as well – both the Sun and Jupiter are generous by nature and a little of that goes a long way.

Venus in Pisces

Venus in Pisces

La vie en Rose. I love this song. It’s the melody, the lyrics, Piaf’s smoky voice… It’s perfect for Venus in Pisces. I’m planning a road trip through France in April/May, so have been boring my family rigid wth this and other French classics.

Of course, another great song choice would be the one by Savage Garden:

I knew I loved you before I met you…I think I dreamed you into life…

Anyways, regardless of song choice, Venus will soon be in Pisces, a sign she exults in being. In Pisces Venus isn’t just at her most comfortable, she’s feeling even better than that. She’s raised on a pedestal and beyond the reach of mere mortals. In Pisces she’s the very embodiment of a dream.

If you want to know more about it, check out something I prepared (much) earlier…you’ll find it here.

If you’re a Pisces woman (or love one), have Venus in Pisces, or Venus in close aspect to Neptune (especially by conjunction or trine) you’ll want to read this.

Doing it for yourself…

We all have Pisces somewhere in our chart, and it’s this part of life that Venus will be bestowing her presence on. It’s this part of life that you’ll find your imagination captured by something. Perhaps it’s a dream or a fantasy, perhaps it’s a vision of how things could be. Perhaps it’s simply something that you know you can’t afford, but what the hell you want it anyway. Boundaries slide away and there’s pleasure in nature, in music, in romance, in lyrics, in water, in helping others, in just being.

In my chart, Venus through the 1st is a time to check in on your look….and mine is way overdue a check-in on. Sadly there’s a gap between the vision of how I think I should look and the reality in the mirror. Luckily I have the attention span of a dory so will get over that super fast!

If you don’t have your chart, read this post on how to get one.

If you don’t know what the houses mean, check out series 1 of the Toolbox or this post.

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide:

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces, Venus will be transiting your 1st house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries, Venus will be transiting your 12th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Taurus, Venus will be transiting your 11th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini, Venus will be transiting your 10th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer, Venus will be transiting your 9th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo, Venus will be transiting your 8th house.
  • If your Sun of Ascendant is in Virgo, Venus will be transiting your 7th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Libra, Venus will be transiting your 6th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio, Venus will be transiting your 5th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, Venus will be transiting your 4th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, Venus will be transiting your 3rd house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius, Venus will be transiting your 2nd house.

Venus will be in Pisces until March 6.

Astro weather: February 7, 2018

Venus sextile Uranus

Unlike other contacts with Uranus where you just want to run and scream and break things – actually, that’s awfully similar to a line I just used in the novel I’m writing so could be a tad on the dramatic side. Anyways, as I was saying, unlike other contacts with Uranus, this one is stimulating rather than destructive – if you know what I mean.

This one is more about providing opportunities for a little excitement, interest, difference…a break from the routine.

It doesn’t need to be much – a surprising or unexpected encounter, a different side of something (or someone) familiar, a party or something fun outside the norm. You might not have to look too hard for it, but you will need to choose whether you want to explore it further.

Astroweather: February 3, 2018

Mercury sextile Mars

I want you to cast your mind back to December 6.

I said then that there might be an opportunity to put some actions behind your words and ideas or to convince someone else of your fabulous idea. I also reminded you that back then Mercury was retrograde and that the best use of the energy would be in information gathering rather than in action. I also said that you’d get another opportunity in February when Mercury would be in forward-thinking Aquarius and Mars is in Sagittarius and both would have their eye more on the future.

Well, that other opportunity is today.

The Moon is in Virgo so while your instincts might be to over-analyse or say not yet when it comes to moments, perfection is a tad over-rated.

Mercury in Aquarius

Mercury moves into Aquarius later today or the wee hours of tomorrow morning – depending on where you live.

Yeah, so what? I hear you say. ‘I’m not an Aquarian,’ you say, ‘so it can’t affect me.’

Yeah…nah. The thing is, the movement of the planets provides the planetary or astro weather forecast for all of us. That means that like it or not, Aquarian or not, for the few weeks that Mercury is in Aquarius, whatever part of your chart is ruled by Aquarius will be where you start to ask more questions, look for more knowledge, want to know stuff.

It’s also a good few weeks to do some future planning, get your head around the latest and greatest app or social media platform and to have that relationship talk that you’ve been needing to have. Actually, I lied about the last one. It’s not a great time at all to do communication that is deep and meaningful in nature. Wait for Mercury in Pisces for that – and bring tissues….just saying.

Want to know more? Of course you do – especially if you have Mercury in Aquarius, or Mercury conjunct Uranus. Duck over and have a look at something I prepared (much) earlier. The link is here.

Doing it for yourself…

Leo Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse

Full Moon 11 Leo 37’ Lunar Eclipse

12.28am 1 February 2018 (Sydney AEDT), 11.28pm 31 January, 2018 (Brisbane), 1,28pm 31 January 2018 (GMT)

Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will…

Living a creative life is freaking scary.

What you’re expressing is your soul, your inner life, something that you nurture and grow within you, before taking the risk to send it out into the world.

What if no one gets it, likes it, reads it, buys it, appreciates it?

That’s the thing about creativity, about art. At some point, you have to trust that you’ve done enough and let it leave home. You have to stand proudly in front of it and pretend that you’re full of confidence when in fact you’re anything but.

Why am I talking about this?

Because in a couple of days we have a Full Moon (and lunar eclipse), and it’s in Leo…and Leo is associated with the 5th house, with creativity, self-expression. It’s also about ego, glory and recognition. When we go public, when we release our “babies” into the world, we’re risking all of these things.

The thing is none of this can exist in isolation. Ambitions for personal glory must be balanced against the responsibilities we have to society. What can we give back? What should we give back? At what point do we draw the line between what we give and what we receive?

Wherever 11 Leo and 11 Aquarius lies in your chart are where you need to look at the balance between these two areas of life.

As with all things, this is easier said than done. Both Aquarius and Leo are fixed signs. The ego is fixed and ideas are fixed. The balance point is somewhere in between – in a place of self-love and acceptance, perhaps.

As I mentioned above, Leo is aligned with the 5th house: with play, creativity, self-expression and the inner child. In this whirl of modern living, it is that inner child which is forgotten – if indeed he/she ever really existed. It is that inner child that’s drowned out by all the authority figures telling us what it is that we should be doing, what we should be wearing, who we should be seeing etc.

Think about this honestly: when was the last time that you let yourself have fun – simply because you really wanted to? Guilt-free, fuss-free, judgement free, responsibility-free fun?

What about this one too – when was the last time you picked up your hobby – and by hobby, I mean something that allows you to creatively express yourself. We all have a 5th house, and we all have something that is creative if we could only give ourselves permission to indulge in it.

So, this Full Moon, I’d like you to do two things for me:

  • Confront a fear- look it square in the eyes, shine a torch on it and laugh at it.
  • Do something creative or fun. Anything. If you’re writing, don’t edit yourself. If you’re painting, let the colours happen. If you’re designing, see what shapes emerge.

This Full Moon happens to also be a lunar eclipse – so will probably feel more intense with possibly some unexpected outcomes. And by intense and unexpected, please don’t necessarily read ‘bad’. (If you want to know more about eclipses, I posted something last week.)

There you go.

Doing it for yourself
