Mars in Scorpio

Later this evening Mars moves into Scorpio. For those of us with Mars in Scorpio, we get an energy reboot of the Martian kind…I’ve written about Mars returns before and will write about mine another time.

If you want to know what it’s like to have Mars in Scorpio, or if you are, know or love a Scorpio man, or even if you have Mars conjunct Pluto, you might want to have a read of this post about Mars in Scorpio.

Doing it for yourself…

For the rest of us, we all have Scorpio somewhere in our chart. This is where you’ll be getting a little extra oomph, focus, energy and drive…you’ll go after what you truly desire with passion and single-mindedness…

As always, the solar guide below is based on whole houses. If you use a different house system and know what house Scorpio covers in your chart, jump straight to that explanation. By now you should also know what the general themes of each house are about, but if not – or if you’re new to this site (and welcome- it’s lovely to see you here) – you can always check out this post.

If your rising sign is Scorpio, Mars is in your 1st house

If your rising sign is Sagittarius, Mars is in your 12th house

If your rising sign is Capricorn, Mars is in your 11th house

If your rising sign is Aquarius, Mars is in your 10th house

If your rising sign is Libra, Mars is in your 2nd house

Happy Birthday Scorpio

A confession: I know I’m not supposed to have astrological favourites, but I do love the Mars ruled signs. I especially love Scorpio. Perhaps it’s because I’ve got a decent Plutonian signature to my chart; perhaps it’s because I have Mars in this sign- in the 8th house; perhaps it’s because my husband, my father, and two of my closest friends were born under this sign. Maybe it’s all of the above.

I love their intensity, their depth, their loyalty, their focus, their mind. I could go on, but I won’t – because I’ve written about Scorpio before…over here.

Doing it for yourself…

We all have Scorpio somewhere in our chart. It’s in this part of life that we’re looking for depth, intensity, focus, and immersion.

Check out where Scorpio is in your chart – that’s where you’re getting the warmth of the Sun’s energy right now – why not use it to do a health check on this part of your life? Are you applying sufficient focus to this part of life? Is there a truth hidden away that you’re pretending not to acknowledge? Is there a deep desire that you’re skating the surface on? While the Sun is in Scorpio, you’re could be asked some awkward questions and confronted with some inconvenient truths.

Not sure where Scorpio is in your chart? Check out this post or follow the solar guide below. Don’t know what the houses mean? Check out this post. If you’re new to this site (or new to astrology) start at the beginning with the Toolbox lessons.

Mercury in Scorpio

If I were to say to you: can you keep a secret? Would you know just what to do- or where to keep it? Poison Arrow, by ABC.

If you have Mercury in Scorpio you know the answers to these questions. Not only can you keep a secret, you know where to keep it: locked away somewhere deep in your mind and guarded by a giant slobbering dog the size of a mountain, with teeth as sharp as stilettoes….or am I confusing Scorpio with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone?

Mercury tells us, as we know from Toolbox 2.3, a lot about how we communicate, learn, and think. It’s not just what we say, but how we say it; and how we hear, absorb and understand the messages coming from others.

Mercury in Water signs learns and communicates through making emotional connections- almost like absorption. In the case of Scorpio, it can be a tad like dredging the bottom of the ocean for answers- Scorpio goes that deeply…and that ruthlessly.

Anyways, if you want to know more about Mercury in Scorpio, or how Scorpio thinks and learns, here’s something I prepared much earlier…

Doing it for yourself…

While Mercury is in Scorpio, it’s a good opportunity for breakthroughs of the emotional kind, or for getting to the bottom of a problem or a situation, or for dealing with hurts – even those hurts that may have been inflicted so long ago that the perpetrator has probably forgotten all about it. It’s a good time for confrontation, for deep introspection, and for plotting – if you’re that way inclined…although obviously that’s so not recommended. I’m thinking that the spicy scenes in my next novel could be made even spicier under the influence of Scorpio. Just saying.

Anyways, this influence will, of course, be best utilised in the part of life that Scorpio rules for you.

If you don’t have your chart, read this post on how to get one.

If you don’t know what the houses mean, check out series 1 of the Toolbox or this post.

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide:

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio, Mercury will be transiting your 1st house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, Mercury will be transiting your 12th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, Mercury will be transiting your 11th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius, Mercury will be transiting your 10th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces, Mercury will be transiting your 9th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries, Mercury will be transiting your 8th house.
  • If your Sun of Ascendant is in Taurus, Mercury will be transiting your 7th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini, Mercury will be transiting your 6th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer Mercury will be transiting your 5th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo, Mercury will be transiting your 4th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo, Mercury will be transiting your 3rd house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Libra, Mercury will be transiting your 2nd house.

Mercury will be in Scorpio until 6/11/17.

Jupiter in Scorpio

After gym today I dropped in at the travel agent for a brochure on Bali. We’re contemplating another trip there mid next year – during the long break between university semesters.

That’s not the only trip I’m planning next year. We’re off on a road trip this weekend to explore a little more of this fabulously huge state we now live in and New Year will be spent at Fraser Island a few hours up the road – another place we’ve always promised ourselves that we’d explore.

In April I’m off to northern France for 3 weeks to do a road trip through Belgium and into the Netherlands before winding up back in Paris. In between all of this is the possibility of another potential short stay in Asia. Travel wise, it’s a busy 12 months ahead.

To add to all of this, my next novel will be out soon and I’m looking at fast tracking another 2 more before this time next year. I’ve just booked to attend a writer’s workshop in November, and last night I attended a talk by Reef Check Australia to raise awareness about the health of the Queensland reefs in general and the Sunshine Coast in particular. It’s something I’m deeply interested in and want to learn more about.

Yes folks, Jupiter in Scorpio will be transiting my 9th house.

When Jupiter was in Libra and transiting my 8th house the themes were all about shared assets, wealth, investments.

Due to a perfect storm, the financial future we’d envisaged was lost – essentially taken away from us. Remember in yesterday’s post I mentioned that very often Jupiter takes away in order to clear space. This led to us making some difficult decisions to protect what we we’d worked so hard to establish. It wasn’t just the assets and investments of the relationship that were considered at this time, it was also the values we held jointly – what was really important to us? What do we want our future, our retirement (8th house) to look like? Where did we need to make compromises to ensure both of our value needs were met? We had to work together (Libra) and venture beyond the boundary of our experience (Jupiter) together in order to come out the other side. We had to consider actions in relation to 8th house matters that we wouldn’t normally contemplate. We knew that we’d done the work to prepare in case this day ever came and had to have faith in the outcome.

It’s turned out well. In fact, we’ve said – on more than one occasion over the last couple of months – that the perfect storm that was 2016 was possibly one of the best things that could have happened to us…at that time, anyway.

The experience of Jupiter in Scorpio will be very different – for all of us – as experiences in Scorpio tend to be.

Jupiter is about expansion and learning through experience. Jupiter is also associated with abundance, travel, publication, broadcasting, teaching, higher learning and vocational learning, spirituality, gurus…I could go on.

Scorpio is about intensity, hunger, and those deep emotional almost soulful connections. When a planet is in Scorpio there’s no hiding and things can’t be taken at surface value. When a planet is in Scorpio things that relate to that part of life have a habit of being exposed.

If we put this together, we’re looking at experience, but on a deeper level.

Scorpio can also be about fear and holding onto something that needs to be let go of. For this reason, some of us may find the Jupiter in Scorpio transit a tad harder than it was in Libra. It could also mean that unless you’re prepared to face that which you’re afraid of more of you end this transit without having taken advantage of the opportunities Jupiter has to offer.

One last point – I mentioned hunger before… As anyone on a diet knows, cravings can be strong – and can, if not managed, lead to binges before you know it. Your hunger doesn’t necessarily need to be for food, but through fear, that’s exactly how you might end up trying to assuage it. After all, Jupiter wants to expand you in some way – just take care that it’s not your physical body being expanded.

Doing it for yourself…

Wherever Jupiter is transiting in your chart is where you might have been under-estimating yourself, asking for too little, or holding back due to a lack of faith:

  • If Jupiter is transiting your 1st house, you’ve been underestimating who you are capable of being.
  • If he is running through the 7th, look at your relationships – is your relationship giving you what you need or are you giving too much to it?
  • In the 10th – are you valuing your experience enough or simply accepting a more junior role than what you are capable of?

This time round, Jupiter’s intentions have been given a Scorpio focus and intensity. You’ll be going much deeper in this part of life than you have before – well not since Jupiter last passed through here anyway.

So when you’re looking for the possible manifestations of a Jupiter transit, look beyond the surface meaning.

As an example, if, like me, Jupiter is transiting your 9th house and you’re travelling, to get the most from the experience – to learn the most from the experience – you need to really get under the skin of a place. To connect with the culture, the locals, perhaps explore their religion or spirituality, and really immerse yourself.

If you’re studying or learning, ensure it’s a subject that speaks to your soul, something that touches you at a level that strikes a chord within you. If it’s a cause you’re becoming involved with, it needs to be one that you’re totally passionate about. Get the idea?

So, what might Jupiter mean for you?

First you need to find which part of your life Jupiter is transiting.

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide:

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio, Jupiter will be in your 1st house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, Jupiter will be in your 12th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, Jupiter will be in your 11th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius, Jupiter will be in your 10th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces, Jupiter will be in your 9th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries, Jupiter will be in your 8th house.
  • If your Sun of Ascendant is in Taurus, Jupiter will be in your 7th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini, Jupiter will be in your 6th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer, Jupiter will be in your 5th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo, Jupiter will be in your 4th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo, Jupiter will be in your 3rd house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Libra Jupiter will be in your 2nd house.

To help you out, I wrote a series of posts a number of years ago that might give you some ideas. You’ll find them on the Jupiter page. I’ve re-jigged these to go into the Jupiter book that I’ll have out soon.

Think also on what happened last time Jupiter was in Scorpio: 27 October 2005 – 25 November 2006. Are there any similar themes being raised?

I’ll leave that one with you…

Scorpio Full Moon

Scorpio Full Moon 11/5/17 20 Scorpio 24’ 7.42am (Australian East Coast time)

Just as I always do, I re-read last years Scorpio Full Moon post. It brought back all the emotions from that time – hubby’s job, my job, the imminent departure of a dear friend, violence that was too close to home, the constant anxiety. All of it. It was a raw, intense, and deeply emotional time.

The leap that was made last year led to the decisions that led to the ultimate decision – the one that brought us to our sea-change.

The Full Moon in Scorpio is all about facing fears and letting them go, waving them goodbye. It’s about letting go of control and trusting the outcome. It’s about releasing something (or someone) to allow something else to come in. It’s about letting go to see what’s underneath. It’s about letting go to let it be the way that it will be. It’s about watching a movie without the spoilers, and reading the whole book before flicking to the end.

I’m a different person this year, and this time the Scorpio Full Moon isn’t so much about fear and the unknown depths – and those depths were pretty deep last year. This year it’s about healing, transformation and rejuvenation. It’s Scorpio Moon, but I’m in a different part of the cycle this year – and it feels sort of the same but, at the same time, so very different.

Doing it for yourself

Where 20 Scorpio 24’ (or thereabouts) falls in your chart is where you may be resisting change. You mightn’t think you’re afraid, but oh so often, that’s what it truly is. What are you hanging on to, trying to control the outcome of? It’s this you need to release. Your balance can be found on the other side of the chart – at 20 Taurus. Think about what this house represents and whether there’s balance or imbalance between these two similar, but different parts of life.

Keywords: Tag and release

For a refresher of the steps, check out this post or click onto the Full Moon pic on the side-bar. Don’t forget, often we don’t get our Full Moon insights until we stop for long enough to recognise them as such.

Where is this happening for you? 20 Scorpio is in my 9th house and trine my Sun (to the degree), and sextile Pluto and Uranus.

Ninth house Full Moons are generally about taking a leap of some description – trusting that you’ll land ok – into something beyond your normal comfort zone. With the Full Moon in Scorpio, something else has to be let go. What I’ll be letting go of – deliberately so – are those habits that are impacting my health (the Sun) and holding me back from taking the next leap.

If you’re not sure where this is for you, check out the info below, and refer back to Series 1 of the Toolbox for pointers on what each of the houses means.

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide. If you do know what house it is for you, head straight there. As a reminder, I’m using whole signs – and here’s why.

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Taurus, this Full Moon falls in your 7th house. Look to the 1st for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini, this Full Moon falls in your 6th house. Look to the 12th for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer, this Full Moon falls in your 5th house. Look to the 11th for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo, this Full Moon falls in your 4th house. Look to the 10th for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo, this Full Moon falls in your 3rd house. Look to the 9th for balance.
  • If your Sun of Ascendant is in Libra, this Full Moon falls in your 2nd house. Look to the 8th for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio, this Full Moon falls in your 1st house. Look to the 7th for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, this Full Moon falls in your 12th house. Look to the 6th for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, this Full Moon falls in your 11th house. Look to the 5th for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius, this Full Moon falls in your 10th house. Look to the 4th for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces, this Full Moon falls in your 9th house. Look to the 3rd for balance.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries this Full Moon falls in your 8th house. Look to the 2nd for balance.

Scorpio New Moon…

Zodiac Scorpio golden sign

New Moon 31/10/16 3.38am (Sydney time- so, 30/10/16 if you’re on the other side of the world) 7 Scorpio 43’

We have a New Moon early tomorrow (Sydney time), this time in Scorpio. That means that we are now in the dark, or balsamic phase of the Moon. The time of the month we finish off, pack away, banish the banishables.

One ritual I like to follow is to clean out something in those days before the New Moon- to metaphorically make space, a clean surface for the new cycle.

I’ve been talking to a few people over the last few days who’ve been talking about removing from their diet foods that aren’t doing them any good. Seriously, is there any better time of the year to do some elimination work than at the Scorpio New Moon? Scorpio is, after all, the sign that rules getting rid of waste, shall we say- elimination of the crap that doesn’t do you any good.

Scorpio is that shadowy place where we pack away all of our deepest fears and our deepest desires. It’s everything we repress, keep a lid on, hide away, yearn for. Scorpio is pleasure and it’s pain, with a very fine line between the two. It’s grudges, grievances, and anything else that we’re not prepared to release.

Scorpio is where we go below the surface to find meaning, solutions, complete healing and transformation. Scorpio is also about power and facing those fears in order to get to your talents and achieve those desires. And there is nothing that has more power over you than fear.  I recall reading something by Eric Francis of Planet Waves where he said “most people who are scared are actually horny but don’t know what to do about it.” I would also add that fear gets in the way of you doing anything about it.

Fear also provides you with the completely mistaken idea that you are in control. So, you stay safe, you say no, you build boundaries around yourself- to stop people getting in and to stop yourself from getting out. And all the while you fool yourself that in doing so you have control. Until you don’t.

This New Moon falls at 7 Scorpio 43’.  The Moon, in Scorpio, is in the sign of her fall- in a place where she doesn’t operate in a way she feels comfortable. In fact, it is exactly the opposite. Rather than being nutritive and emotionally comfortable, in Scorpio she is penetrative, paranoid and divinely focused. She is also ravenously hungry. Hungry for desire, hungry for passion, hungry for power, hungry for control, hungry for revenge- hungry.

Sometimes it might feel like more than you can handle, that the temptation is just too…tempting. The hunger keeps you awake at night. You dream it, you replay missed opportunities in your head- things you should have said and done, things you wish you hadn’t said and done. The implications, the complications of diving in too deep.

We can do two things with this appetite:

  • Bury the feelings deep down. Dig a big hole in the middle of your soul, throw in the stuff that scares the crap out of you, but that you want so much, heap in 6 tonne of soil and secure it with a big, heavy wrought iron lid…and a key. Then sit back and try not to think about what you have missed out on. Let the discontent fester as you feed it from the fridge or the wine cellar- feeding all the gaps that were left when you locked your desires away. Create a few excuses- a few logical reasons why you haven’t fulfilled your potential, grabbed those opportunities, told that one person how you really feel about them.
  • Strip Fear of the power you have given her and use it to fuel your courage to do the things that fear has stopped you from doing in the past. Reclaim that power for yourself. Eliminate those beliefs, behaviours and people that are doing you no good. Let them go- sure you may miss them, but not for long. Look deep into yourself and see the truth- you can handle it.  Then get out there and do it- all of it. Seriously, how hard can it be?

Wow, that’s all a little philosophical and astro-guffy, but do you get my meaning?

Essentially this New Moon is asking you to either do the stuff that scares the shit out of you, or bury it. It’s that simple. Just remember- the shit you do bury has a habit of getting dug back up- and then it’s all decayed and manky and even more scary and unpleasant than when it went in the ground. Your call.

Doing it for yourself…

If you’ve been reading along, you should know how to find where the New Moon is happening in your chart. If you’re new to this site (welcome), duck across and check out this post before you go any further.

The position you’re looking for is 7 Scorpio 43’…or thereabouts.

Now, let’s set our intentions. Think about the area of life you’re focusing on and set small achievable targets. Make sure that you do at least one thing towards this goal this month. If you’re unsure where to start, check out this post.

  • How do the concerns of this house make you feel?
  • How would you like to feel about them?
  • What positive steps can you take over the next four weeks to minimise the gap between how you feel about this are and how you’d like to feel?

*****Write it down!!!!!!!!!!******

If you don’t have any idea about your birth time, or can’t be faffed working it out, you can follow the solar guide:

  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Scorpio, this New Moon will be in your 1st house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Sagittarius, this New Moon will be in your 12th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Capricorn, this New Moon will be in your 11th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aquarius, this New Moon will be in your 10th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Pisces, this New Moon will be in your 9th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Aries, this New Moon will be in your 8th house.
  • If your Sun of Ascendant is in Taurus, this New Moon will be in your 7th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Gemini, this New Moon will be in your 6th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Cancer, this New Moon will be in your 5th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Leo, this New Moon will be in your 4th house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Virgo, this New Moon will be in your 3rd house.
  • If your Sun or Ascendant is in Libra this New Moon will be in your 2nd house.

As for me? This New Moon falls exactly on my nodal axis (yep, sounds painful). And when I say exactly, that’s exactly what I mean. The New Moon is at 7 Scorpio 43’, and my South Node is at 7 Scorpio 44’. In a way it will be a little like a personal solar eclipse for me. In the 8th, I suspect it will have something to do with money: specifically debt or other people’s money. The south node is sort of like your karmic DNA- the habitual patterns that you continue to repeat, while the north node is learning your way forward. Whatever this represents, it will be interesting.

And, given a trine to natal Mercury from the New Moon, I suspect there’ll be news or a message of some description involved. Who knows? In any case, it feels fitting that it’s falling on Halloween…

Happy Birthday Scorpio

Zodiac Scorpio golden sign

A confession: I know I’m not supposed to have astrological favourites, but I do love the Mars ruled signs. I especially love Scorpio. Perhaps it’s because I’ve got a decent Plutonian signature to my chart; perhaps it’s because I have Mars in this sign- in the 8th house; perhaps it’s because my husband, my father, and one of my closest friends were born under this sign. Maybe it’s all of the above.

I love their intensity, their depth, their loyalty, their focus, their mind. I could go on, but I won’t- because I’ve written about Scorpio before…over here.

Doing it for yourself…

We all have Scorpio somewhere in our chart. It’s in this part of life that we’re looking for depth, intensity and merging.
